Great event yesterday at the Fire & Building Safety Forum at The Shard! This was the 5th Building & Fire Safety Forum run in partnership with Irwin and Colton, iQ Student Accommodation and Kennedys bringing together a diverse range of stakeholders to tackle critical issues and share best practices in building safety. Highlights from the day included: Emily Harbottle CEO of Cascade Risk Management, delivered an insightful presentation on assessing and managing structural safety under the Building Safety Act (BSA). Drawing on her aviation industry background, offering practical advice. Hazel Milner, Associate at Kennedys, provided a comprehensive update on the Grenfell Inquiry, reflecting on its implications for the industry and future regulations. Alex Carter Partner at Cundall explored the topic from a structural engineering perspective, shedding light on challenges and opportunities in achieving compliance. Followed by a thought-provoking panel discussion featuring: Darren Hicks H&S Director, iQ Student Accommodation Laura Lucinda Bryant, Director of Operational Risk, Greystar Europe Shaun Lundy Strategy and Assurance Director, Tetra Consulting Excellent intro and summary from Matthew Cathcart ! It’s early days for the new regulatory regime and there were always going to be teething problems. But the future if bright!What I learned from yesterday’s forum is that the support and advice gained during gatherings such as this is essential as we define best practice and find solutions to the gritty problems.

Over the years, the theme of this week-long initiative has evolved and strengthened the message that every person in the industry plays an essential role in safety.
