Great keynote by Paul Griffiths, CEO of Dubai Airports. ✨Highlights ✨ Why can airports not take a leaf out of hospitality's book? Airports are seen as the necessary evil to go on your holidays. 👂 Phrases often heard at airports: "Take out your liquids" "Take out your laptops" "Take off your shoes" "Sir, I told you to remove your belt!" And why are airports just getting bigger when human legs have roughly stayed the same length? The last thing anyone wants when they are running late for a flight is to have to run an unexpected marathon! 🏃♂️🎽 💡Can we not use capacity at regional airports to alleviate capacity issues at our largest airports without pouring another single litre of concrete? Let's work together to make airports a place that passengers enjoy rather than endure. #CEO #AirportCX #DubaiAirport

✈️ Happy Friday - We have just wrapped up work on a precision approach path indicator (PAPI) positioning for the new runway at Al Maktoum International Airport in Dubai. Al Maktoum International Airport, also known as Dubai World Central, is an international airport in Jebel Ali, 37 kilometres southwest of Dubai, United Arab Emirates, that opened on 27 June 2010. It is the main part of Dubai South, a planned residential, commercial and logistics complex. Located in Dubai South, Al Maktoum International Airport (DWC) is set to become the world's largest airport, handling 260 million passengers and 12 million tonnes of cargo annually. Strategically positioned near Emaar South and Expo City Dubai, it’s a hub for global travel, trade, and logistics. Cutting-edge infrastructure and future metro connectivity drive Dubai’s growth as a worldwide destination. This $30B project is a monumental step for aviation. Early involvement sets Air Traffic Solutions up for future runway and tower projects. Here’s to shaping the future of Dubai’s airspace! #DubaiAirport #AlMaktoumInternational #AviationInnovation #DubaiWorldCentral #GlobalTravelHub #AviationInfrastructure #AirTrafficManagement #FutureOfAviation #DubaiSouth #GlobalLogistics #AirportDevelopment #AviationExcellence #PrecisionApproach #AviationProjects #SmartInfrastructure #MiddleEastAviation #mikelockwood #johnruttiman #lyndalwilson #airtrafficsolutions Mike Lockwood John Ruttiman Lyndal Wilson

Dubai International (IATA: DXB, ICAO: OMDB) Airport is the main airport serving Dubai as well as the principal airport of UAE. DXB is not only listed among the busiest airports in the world when it comes to passenger traffic, but it also serves the most international passengers in the world. It is estimated that 1 plane flies from DBX every 76 seconds. It is also the 2nd-busiest airport in the world by passenger traffic, the busiest airport for Airbus A380 & Boeing 777 movements & the airport with the highest average number of passengers per flight. In 2023, the airport handled 87 million passengers, 1.81 million tons of cargo & registered 416,405 aircraft movements. From 2006-2014, I was involved in security consultancy work for DBX's Terminal 3, Cargo Mega Terminal as well as for the various modifications & many additions. Terminal 3 was completed & opened on 14 Oct 2008 in 4 seperate phases to avoid crashing the baggage handling & other IT systems. Terminal 3 was the largest building in the world by floor area & is currently the world's largest airport terminal, with over 1,713,000 m2 of space. A large part of Terminal 3 is located under the taxiway area & directly connected to Concourse B: the departure & arrival halls in the new structure are 10m beneath the airport's apron. Terminal 3 boasts a multi level underground structure, first & business class lounges, restaurants, 180 check-in counters & 2,600 car-parking spaces. The terminal offers more than double the previous retail area of Concourse C, by adding about 4,800 m2 & Concourse B's 10,700 m2 of shopping facilities. Dubai Airports’ Cargo Mega Terminal which was built on a 43,600 m2 site, with a capacity of 3 million tons per year, handles all types of cargo from one central location. This terminal has fully-automated workstations & is one of the most technologically advanced cargo terminals in the world. Dubai has another international airport, known as Dubai World Central (IATA: DWC, ICAO: OMD) Airport (Al Maktoum Airport) located in Jebel Ali, which is presently a low cost terminal. However, the authorities have repurposed DWC & designated it to be the country's new main aviation hub with a 260 million passenger capacity. When construction is fully completed, DWC is expected to be the largest in the world. When the new & much improved DWC is fully operational in about 10 years time & at an projected cost of US35 billion, DBX would likely be decommissioned. However for the time being, DWC remains the secondary airport in Dubai. The new DWC Airport is a different beast. At 5 times the size of DBX, it is slated to have 400 gates & 5 parallel runways. In the US, Chicago's O'Hare International Airport (IATA: ORD, ICAO: KORD) has 8 runways, the most runways of any civilian airport in the world. But the 8 runways are utilised at different times depending on the prevailing wind, weather, traffic & airport conditions. As of 2023, O'Hare is considered the world's most connected airport.

Dubai plans to make Al Maktoum International Airport the world's biggest airport. It will be even larger than Dubai International Airport, which is currently the busiest in the world. This $35-billion project aims to handle more passengers in the future, keeping Dubai at the forefront of global aviation. ✈️ 👉 The expanded airport will cover over 27 square miles and have five runways. It will also feature four terminals with 400 gates, able to accommodate up to 260 million passengers annually and handle over 13 million tons of cargo. The new airport will be a transportation hub and a center connecting millions of people to Dubai's vibrant city life. Based at Dubai International Airport, Emirates Airlines will move to Al Maktoum International Airport by 2034. This move will help ensure a smooth transition and a better traveler experience. 👌 Overall, this project shows Dubai's commitment to innovation and progress in airport infrastructure. 👏 As the new airport is built, Dubai is set to lead the way in shaping the future of aviation. ✈️ #estleys #dubaiairport #aviationgrowth #worldslargestairport #dubaiinfrastructure #futureofaviation #dubaiinnovation

3moGood points. Almost all of the airports we work with are certainly focusing on CX and hospitality especially with the challenge of fewer operations and larger aircraft which put more pressure on the pax- and vehicle-centric infrastructure at airports. In terms of regional airports, "calling all airlines"?
