I often get asked the question, "Why did you join the Rotary Club?" My honest answer is that I wasn’t entirely sure at first. I joined because a good friend needed my support during her year as club president. Initially, I entered Rotary without fully knowing what to expect. Now, nearly two and a half years later, I've transitioned from being just a member to becoming the Chartered President of a club. It hasn’t always been easy, but I’ve never regretted my decision to join. Being part of Rotary has taught me many valuable lessons. One of the key insights I gained is that running a club is very much like running a business. The members function like employees, working together as a cohesive team, fostering mutual respect, and helping each other grow and shine. Additionally, I’ve learned to care less about external judgments and how to disregard gossip. The three critical lessons that have truly inspired me throughout this experience are: 1. When I fall, I get back up with grace and resilience. 2. I should never compare myself to others. 3. I can help others without expecting anything in return.

It's #WorldBrailleDay, and 2025 marks the 200th anniversary of the invention of #braille! As a qualified vision specialist teacher, I can attest to the joy and wonder that #braille provides to children learning to read with the magic of these six dots. Watching a child learn to read through #LouisBraille’s incredible invention, and then begin to read to learn remains one of my proudest moments. We need to continue to find ways to centre #BrailleLiteracy, braille numeracy, and braille music notation in the education of children who are #blind or have #LowVision who would benefit from them, as they offer a means of direct and independent access to learning and information that other means cannot.
