Thermal Energy Networks ramp-up coming soon: US Dept of Energy will publish “Pathways to Commercial Liftoff” report on utility- and community-scale geothermal networks in the next few weeks, says Alexis McKittrick, program manager at DOE’s Geothermal Technologies Office. ⚡ “These systems are out there now, they are scalable, and they can be adapted to different geographies, different communities,” McKittrick said. “[They] can be configured for whatever your building mix and scale looks like.” #TENs #Geothermal

🌞 California Utilities Threaten Rooftop Solar – And Governor Newsom is Complicit! 🌞 California’s push towards clean energy is facing a serious threat. Major utilities are trying to shut down rooftop solar to protect their monopolies, and unfortunately, one of my favorite guys Governor Gavin Newsom is complicit. Here’s what’s happening: 🔌 Utilities’ Monopoly: The big utility companies are lobbying hard to dismantle net metering policies that make rooftop solar affordable and attractive for homeowners. They are literally trying to end rooftop solar in CA. 💸 Campaign Contributions: Governor Newsom has received significant campaign contributions from these utilities, raising concerns about whose interests are being prioritized. Frankly, he has sold out to the utilities that make money from building huge scale solar projects out in no man's land that will take too many years to create the transmission lines to the actual users of the energy. ⚡ Impact on Solar Adoption: These efforts are stifling the growth of rooftop solar in California, a vital component of our renewable energy future and a critical tool in the fight against climate change. Why This Matters: Energy Independence: Rooftop solar empowers homeowners to generate their own electricity, reducing reliance on the grid and lowering energy bills. It's not just for the well off (most solar installs are with household income of up to $100k). Environmental Impact: Solar energy is a clean, renewable source that helps reduce greenhouse gas emissions and combat climate change. Economic Benefits: The rooftop solar industry creates jobs and stimulates economic growth within local communities. Since 2023's policy change cutting back on what utilities pay for power sent back to them by 80% California's solar market has been crushed. Good for PG&E bad for home owners and our goals for climate change. We need to stand up for our clean energy future and ensure that policies support, not hinder, the adoption of solar power. 💡 What Can You Do? Stay Informed: Understand the issues at stake and the impacts on our environment and economy. Newsom and the utilities hope people aren't paying attention while they protect their stakeholders. Raise Your Voice: Contact your local representatives and demand support for rooftop solar. Spread the Word: Share this post to inform others about the utilities’ efforts and Governor Newsom’s involvement. #SolarEnergy #CleanEnergy #RenewableEnergy #RooftopSolar #Calssa #ClimateChange #EnergyIndependence #SaveSolar #GavinNewsom

Quick (and informative) read by Carter Harms! Grid-enhancing technologies (#GETs) and #advancedconductors are cost effective tools to increase grid capacity at a time where demand continues to grow!
My colleague Carter Harms out today with a piece on how states are leveraging advanced transmission technologies to achieve efficiency, resiliency and cost savings. Did you know…. Montana was one of the first states to promote the use of ATTs with a 2023 bill that provides incentives for utilities to deploy advanced reconductors. And so far in 2024, Arizona, Maine, Minnesota, New York, and Virginia have passed bills to boost ATT deployment, with California still considering legislation. Read more 👇🏼The Pew Charitable Trusts

Charities and social enterprises: How energy-efficient is your building? 🏘 🌆 You could get a free assessment plus a grant for insulation, boilers, lighting or other efficiency measures ⚡ 🌤 ♻ Groundwork Social Investment Business #Placemaking #CommunityBusiness #UKHighStreets #TownCentreProperty
Charities & social enterprises can get free/funded independent energy assessments for their buildings - from this scheme run by Groundwork for Department for Culture, Media and Sport. Most importantly, if you get an assessment (or have an eligible one already undertaken), you can apply for a capital grant of up to £150k for your community building to then install energy efficiency measures that have been recommended - that could be insulation, boilers, lighting and more. [Social Investment Business are a partner to Groundwork to deliver this] See all the details on the website, including how to apply: https://lnkd.in/eF2RsbpF #charity #socialenterprise #energyefficiency #grants #energy #socent

Rule #1 of deploying hydrogen: Electrify first - Energy Exchange (edf.org) Oh My Goodness - YES! After talking to a number of people about hydrogen recently, and trying to articulate why it doesn't feel right to be prioritising it over offshore wind in the short term, this article confirms my sentiment! (Thank you Tom Quinn for bringing it to my attention today!!)

After a series of ups and downs, #offshorewind is experiencing some ups again. While the northeastern states, notably #Massachusetts, are starting to generate #cleanenergy, #Louisiana is ramping up its efforts. While there is more than enough wind to go around, #states understand that federal funding is on the table. Louisiana's existing #manufacturing base can allow it to leapfrog over states that are already in the OFW mix. More details in the report from Pew Charitable Trusts and Xodus.

Lamar County, Texas is celebrating the commencement of #APAMember Ørsted’s 468 MW Mockingbird Solar Center – estimated to contribute $75 million in property taxes. “$75 million for roads, for county services, for educational services that are not coming out of the pockets of the local landowners,” remarked #Texas House District 1 Representative Gary VanDeaver. Additionally, nearly 1,000 acres of the Smiley Woodfin National Grasslands have been preserved as a part of the project with the Smiley Meadow Preserve - land donated by Ørsted to The Nature Conservancy in Texas. https://bit.ly/40ZfsTh

✅ The Pew Charitable Trusts has begun an initiative with the goal of pushing the envelope of grid modernization and quickening the deployment of clean energy across the U.S. ✅ The initiative is working on creating a roadmap for increasing the growth of Distributed Energy Resources in America. ✅ The use of DERs, such as solar power, provides communities with environmental benefits and cost efficiency. Immerse yourself in the dynamics of the new initiative driving the United States' shift towards Distributed Energy Resources (DERs), brought to you by The Pew Charitable Trusts. This plan counts on the roadmap they plan to construct for the acceleration of DERs growth in the U.S., bringing together industry and regulation experts, community organizations, and utility representatives. Together, they aim to guide policymakers and provide communities with the necessary resources for greener choices. The power of this initiative is demonstrated with real-life examples in California and North Carolina, where solar-plus-storage microgrids have provided significantly reduced outage hours and powered essential devices in crisis-hit areas. In conclusion, the obvious value of solar power within microgrids puts these DERs at an essential spot for our future energy needs, contributing to the revolution of energy manufacturing and democratisation.
