Happy International Women’s Day! As we honor the achievements of women around the world @afrisportsconsultancy join hands with FIFA’s commitment to protection and promotion of all human rights and fighting all forms of discrimination, at all levels including women football in Africa. Article 27 of the CAF’s Men Club Licensing Regulations made it mandatory to clubs participating in CAF inter-clubs’ competition to either have an active women team or enter into a partnership with an existing women club as means to promote growth and development of women football in the region. The development of women football in Africa have also been facing significant barriers. At different occasions some female players have been denied access to participate in CAF competitions on alleged basis of hormonal imbalance. Such decisions have no legal basis as FIFA Regulations on Gender Verification of 2011 did not set any limit of hormones for a female player to be eligible in women competitions. To all women may you continue to break barriers and defy stereotypes. Happy Women’s Day! #womenday #womenfootball #africanwomen

Negative attitudes towards girls playing football start scarily young. Between 2022-23 there was a 400% increase in reports of sexist abuse according to anti-discrimination campaigners Kick It Out. That’s why we’ve been working with Rexona in association with FIFA Women’s World Cup™️ to launch a ground-breaking initiative that tackles barriers girls face when playing football and other sports from age nine and up. We’ve created free educational materials for teachers in all UK schools, giving them the tools to help girls play football, plus age-appropriate strategies to get boys thinking about how they can support them as allies. We hope the work will make a real difference in the future of women’s sport. Brands backing positivity and behaviour change is a win-win for everyone. #Sure #BreakingLimitsProgramme #Rexona #FIFA Emily Heath Grace Zhiamin Lee Camille Singer

Did you know there's a significant drop-off in girls playing sport when they start their period? We're working with England Rugby to tackle this - pun intended. #CareAndProtect free-issue period product dispensers play an integral part in ensuring their players have free access to the products they need, so they can focus on enjoying the sport. careprotect.uk #FreeIssue #PeriodCare #PeriodProducts #PeriodEquality #GirlsInSport #WomenInSport #RWC2025
Small changes can make a big difference 📈 And that’s why England Rugby are providing free sanitary provisions at more than 500 rugby clubs to help remove obstacles to participation for women and girls, as part of the ‘Impact ’25’ legacy programme associated with #RWC2025. 🚨 New publication 🚨 Really pleased to see this in print. This study explores disabled people's lived experiences of English football fandom. Thank you to the participants, reviewers, and co-authors Dr Paul Darby & Dr Paul Kitchin. This study demonstrated that while some English football clubs provide inclusive spectator environments where disabled people experience moments of inclusion and belonging, they nonetheless face structural, social and psychological barriers before, during and after the matchday. These barriers are caused by the operation of oppressive power relations known as ableism and disablism. These power relations manifest in various ways in English football and create conditions that can exclude, oppress and constrain full participation in football fandom. We encourage future research to challenge these oppressive power relations which currently hold disabled people in the margins of sport to ensure they are able to access and experience the freedoms and opportunities in cultural life to which they have a right. UEFA EURO 2024 starts tomorrow ⚽️ Germany will host 23 other nations at this year's tournament, as they all aim to win Europe's most coveted prize. I've heard a lot about favourites of the tournament, who win the Golden Boot & dare I say, if football is finally "coming home" for England! 🚨 Trigger Warning: Domestic Violence Awareness 🚨 But I'd like to draw your attention to the scary reality of what 4 weeks of tournament football can mean for some... It can mean an increase in domestic abuse! In fact, statistics show that domestic violence increases by 38% when there's a football tournament. Raising awareness will allow those within society, especially workplaces, to be more mindful as to why someone may not want to talk or engage with the football tournament conversations over the next few weeks! Tournaments are supposed to be exciting times, bringing nations together. But for many, it's an occasion filled with immense fear! If you or anyone you know is affected by domestic violence. Proud to collaborate with UEFA on advancing accessibility in football #UEFAAccessibilityGuidelines Accessibility in European football is about more than just infrastructure for disabled people; it touches on the needs of over 40% of all people, making football truly inclusive for staff, volunteers, and fans. The recent UEFA Champions League match at Club Atlético de Madrid demonstrated how accessible design can benefit everyone, showcasing the inclusive facilities and initiatives featured in UEFA’s Accessibility Guidelines. These guidelines not only support matchday experiences but also emphasize creating welcoming spaces for non-matchday activities, fostering a strong sense of community. There are over 120 million disabled people in the European Union, and with the increasing interest in football, we have a huge opportunity to set a global standard for accessibility. Equal access ensures that everyone can participate and enjoy the game on equal terms. Explore the guidelines and learn more about making football more inclusive on the #UEFA and #AccessibAll websites. Together, we can make football truly welcoming for all.
