Homeschooling during the pandemic has been a unique journey for my family. My kids are efficient and can knock out their schoolwork in just a few hours, leaving us with a lot of extra time on our hands. The big question was: How do we keep them engaged and learning when the schoolwork is done? We know that if we're not proactive, it can lead to issues. So, we got creative! We discovered the joy of exploring new hobbies, science experiments, and family projects. Homeschooling may have presented challenges, but it also opened doors to amazing moments with our kids. Share your own homeschooling tips and experiences in the comments! #HomeschoolingJourney #ParentingDuringPandemic #LearningTogether #parentingjourney #parentinghacks

Excerpts from “Home school rising: Shattering myths, finding courage, and opting out of the school system.” (2024), by Christy-Faith “It’s not uncommon for children who were once deemed ‘falling behind’ in traditional schooling to flourish within a homeschooling environment…when students fall behind, the challenge isn’t always inherently with the failures of the child, but often with the structural limitations of the traditional school system” (p. 166). “Myth: Professional are the only ones qualified to teach, especially kids with special needs… After spending the majority of my career supporting the traditional school system, I can tell you this belief is certainly false…there is little that educators are trained to do that is difficult for a loving, motivated parent to master” (p. 168). “Homeschooling can be an ideal option for children with special needs because it allows for individualized attention, customized curriculum, and flexibility to accommodate their unique learning styles and pace. As a parent, you have the advantage of being intimately familiar with your child’s needs, strengths, and challenges, which positions you as the best advocate and teacher for them” (p. 168). “Additionally, there is a wealth of specialized resources, support groups, and online communities specifically designed to assist homeschooling parents of children with special needs” (p. 168). “Learning disabilities are not a reason to put your kid in school—it’s often an even greater reason to opt out of the traditional school system” (p. 169). Excerpts from “Home school rising: Shattering myths, finding courage, and opting out of the school system.” (2024), by Christy-Faith “This arrangement [conventional schooling] is killing the joy of countless families. It’s partly why 55% of Americans are dissatisfied with U.S. K-12 education. The other reason? Child safety, lack of academic proficiency, mental health challenges from a host of negative influence, and families feeling torn apart” (p. 40). “Homeschooling can rekindle the precious family bond that may be diminishing in conventional educational settings” (p. 40). “Homeschooling is not a magic elixir for family bonding. What it does create is a natural opportunity and the time for your family to stay connected” (p. 40). “Homeschooling isn’t pie in the sky. It’s hard work. But most things worthy of doing aren’t easy” (p. 41). “When you homeschool, you have the opportunity to design the atmosphere of your home and schooling. More importantly, it puts you in the driver’s seat—allowing you to choose how you want to grow, parent, and connect with your child” (p. 41). This book can be purchased at https://lnkd.in/duRPa5GQ
