Have you heard the news? On Thursday we announced that with so many successes and learnings from our 11-home neighbourhood retrofit pilot, we are ready to take this model to the entire community! We're thrilled to be showcasing the achievements of our pilot and engaging community in a new phase that aims to bring clean energy retrofits to 500 homes across Vernon over the next three years. “We’ve learned so much about what’s possible when we do retrofits as a group, and now we have the support to put those learnings and benefits to use on a much larger scale—and take even greater climate action,” says Amandeep Singh, founder. Are you ready to switch to clean energy and save money? 🏡 Join one of our Saturday open houses, starting Oct. 12. 💻 Join a Tuesday evening online information session.starting Oct. 8 ↪️ Get details and RSVP here: www.homezerocollective.com The more we rally together, the more successful we can be at making it easier and more affordable for families to switch to electric systems that reduce emissions and save money. If we achieve our second-phase goal of reaching 500 homes, Vernon can collectively reduce its emissions by 2,000 tons every year! #VernonBC #NorthOkanagan #Okanagan #solarpower #heatpumps #homezero #cleanBC #retrofits #cleanenergy #CleanBC #vernonbchomes #Foothills #foothillsvernon #easthillvernon

Beginning this week, a neighborhood in Framingham, Mass., will be part of a pilot climate solution that connects 37 homes and businesses with a highly-efficient, underground heating and cooling system. Even taking into account that several of the buildings will be switching from natural gas to electricity, people are expected to see their electric bills drop by 20% on average. It’s a model some experts say can be scaled up and replicated elsewhere. #homeheating #homecooling #building efficiency Read this news story and more on the #energytransition at Kathari.News

Today is the UN’s World Environment Day. A day when we celebrate our unique planet but also draw attention to the challenges we have. This year’s theme is ’Land Restoration, Desertification, and Drought Resilience’. One way to make better use of the available land is to build on height and in order for it to function optimally, a lift is an important building block. Although we at SWIFT Home Lifts are far from perfect, we are constantly trying to improve ourselves. Something we are proud of is that our SWIFT home lift is 100% battery driven. 🔋 A revolutionary new drive system that features dynamic charge, whereby batteries are charged as the lift moves downwards. ⬇️ This means every 4th trip is for free! You can even choose to connect the lift to your own independent electricity grid powered by solar panels. #SWIFT #homelifts #SWIFTHomeLifts #designedinswedenmadefortheworld #newwaystomove #worldenvironmentday #wed #UN #un #landrestoration #desertification #droughtresilience #dynamiccharge #100%batterydriven #batterydriven #everyfourthtripforfree

Kingston’s Efficient Homes Show returns! Working with communities towards a greener future that protects and enhances the environment is a key priority for us, and we know that helping people to reduce emissions generated at home plays a huge role in tackling climate change. London has some of Europe’s oldest housing, with 80% of all homes expected to exist in 2050 having already been built. While much of it was built to stand the test of time, it wasn’t built with a changing climate or modern energy efficiency standards in mind. This is why, in 2023, we decided to take a holistic approach - gathering residents, businesses, contractors and educators together at the borough’s first ever Efficient Homes Show. Around 400 people attended to get advice about reducing their energy bills, find out about renewable technology, generate business leads and protect the planet. Kingston’s Efficient Homes Show returns for a second year, bigger and better than before. Tickets are FREE and can be booked at: https://lnkd.in/efGnH5eT Hollyfield School in Surbiton on Saturday 18 May 2024. 🏡💚 #GreenerKingston #retrofit #ClimateChange

A nonprofit group that sets U.S. building codes has nixed rules to make new homes ready for EVs and heat pumps. Climate advocates blame fossil gas lobbyists. “This is going to increase retrofit and equipment and appliance installation costs for homes and businesses without them even knowing it, and increase their energy costs without them even knowing it.” Learn more: https://bit.ly/3VushSM #homeelectrification #buildingcodes #EVs #heatpumps

I wrote an op-ed for City Limits about this moment in time when lots of money is being driven to energy efficiency and electrification programming, but rather than driving a just clean energy transition, we risk seeing the same poorly designed programs continue to contribute to a new form of redlining that's already taken hold- energy efficiency redlining. The NYS PSC has a chance to force change and stop NYSERDA and the utilities from continuing to contribute to the economic and environmental harms faced by Black, brown and lower-income working class New Yorkers. I hope this opportunity for change is seized upon. A failure in program success is a failure in leadership at this point. #cleanenergy #climatechange #racialjustice #environmentaljustice #nyc #nys
New York’s $5 billion in energy efficiency funding is missing the mark. As Pratt Center for Community Development's Director of Climate Initiatives Rebekah Morris-Gonzalez points out, despite this once-in-a-generation windfall, many Black, brown, and low- to middle-income New Yorkers are still being left out of vital clean energy retrofits, leaving them to struggle with higher energy bills. Did you know that New York has set aside $10 million for large-scale thermal projects that reduce greenhouse gas emissions from heating, cooling and hot water in buildings? It’ll definitely be worth keeping an eye on the projects that come from this exciting program! Read more at the link in the comments! #IGSHPA #NY #geothermal

Last year, the City Council of Grants Pass, Oregon passed a plan to build resilience by diversifying sources of power for all public buildings and vehicles, shifting to renewables, and implementing a number of nature-based solutions. The plan was spurred by the realization that the city’s relative isolation means that fuel supplies may be difficult to maintain during natural disasters. Current projections show southwest Oregon facing warmer, drier weather over the coming decades, leading to more severe wildfires and limited water resources. Grants Pass is currently pursuing grants to fund transition efforts, though they have found it challenging to compete with larger, more well-resourced communities. #climateresilience https://ow.ly/Q4pC50QQYZv
