Small Charites Overhead The obsession with scale in the charity sector often leads to negative outcomes, including competition, bad behavior, and burnout among charity workers. It's driven by a desire for expansion and influence, sometimes at the expense of smaller, community-driven organizations. This focus on scale can overshadow the importance of local impact and collaboration, as highlighted by Jamie Ward-Smith MBE and Paul Streets Being a trustee, chair, fund raiser for over 20+ years “lived in experience and learnings” in NFP and charity sector has shown certain insights :- To support small charities effectively, consider recognizing their unique value in community impact and offering targeted investments. Trusts and foundations often acknowledge this by investing in their futures. Additionally, fostering collaborations rather than competition with larger charities can amplify their reach and effectiveness. Supporting small charities is crucial because they often deliver high value for money and have a significant community impact. They excel in areas that larger charities may overlook, focusing on community-driven initiatives. Trusts and foundations recognize this by investing in their futures, acknowledging their unique role in addressing local needs and fostering social change. Investing in community-driven initiatives is vital because they address local needs directly, fostering empowerment, sustainability, and social change. These initiatives leverage technology and local knowledge to solve problems uniquely relevant to their communities, making a significant impact on education, health, and economic development. Local empowerment is crucial as it ensures that solutions to community challenges are designed and implemented by those who understand the local context best. This approach leads to more sustainable and effective outcomes, fostering a sense of ownership and engagement within the community. Interesting report just released by The Centre for Social Justice (CSJ) reported that commissioners tend to award contracts to larger, national charities that have the resources to secure funding and raise their profile but lack the knowledge and expertise of delivery in local areas. - See more at: https://lnkd.in/eAypiVSd #smallcharities Givey WaterHarvest Fredericks Foundation #socialimpact Work for Good #smallbutmighty NCVO Small International Development Charities Network (SIDCN) #smallcharityweek

Delighted to be featured in Alliance magazine this month talking about why we need more "social mobility" in the charity sector. The lack of it affects us all because it means our society cannot scale solutions to the problems we face. I challenge you to find a problem out there that hasn't been solved by somebody somewhere, but most of these ideas never reach the mainstream. Why, because even the best small charities find it extremely hard to raise money, particularly the unrestricted funding needed to develop. Good fundraising skills - the preserve of large charities with massive fundraising departments - still win out most of the time, not the people with the best ideas, the best operations and the greatest impact. We need more people to support small charities with unrestricted funding... Please get in touch if you'd like to find out more about The Fore and how we help connect philanthropists, donors and businesses with the UK's best small charities and social enterprises. #unrestrictedfunding #smallcharities #catalyticphilanthropy #socialimpact #skilledvolunteering #philanthropy

A tradition of social responsibility🤝 The history of ElringKlinger AG can be traced back to Paul Lechler. Together with his father, the company’s original founder decided as early as 1875 to donate to charity 10% of the profits generated by what was then a family business. Paul Lechler supported various social projects throughout his life. In 1916, for example, he had a convalescent home for tropical diseases built in Tübingen, a hospital known today as the “Paul-Lechler-Krankenhaus”.🏥 In 1928, Paul Lechler set up a trust and stipulated in his will that its charitable work should be continued after his death. This tradition has been fully embraced ever since – through the work of the aforementioned trust. Its efforts are underpinned to a large extent by ElringKlinger’s commercial success as a company. The Lechler Stiftung supports charitable projects in the fields of education and health, in addition to providing assistance for youngsters, the elderly, and the disabled. In 2008, the charitable trust introduced the Paul Lechler Award in recognition of innovative community projects in Baden-Württemberg.🏆 At ElringKlinger, managers follow the example set by the company founder: social projects form an essential part of the HR development program for young professionals. The global “EKDrive High Potential Program” is dedicated to developing young talent for Group-wide management and expert roles. Alongside an individual project, this 18-month management program also includes a social project. The participants come together according to region, conceive and present ideas for projects, and then put them into practice. The three teams currently assigned to this program have committed themselves to very different social projects – but their ambitions are always the same: they are passionate about their work and want to make a lasting contribution. #elringklinger #responsibility #transformationpioneer #drivethefuture #mobility

This survey makes for an interesting story and some headline items – but risks obscuring the reality that the eight blueprint focus areas it put to charities do not stand in isolation (See the survey: https://lnkd.in/gamr5ExG ). To take just one example, reform of government contracting will require (among other things), paying what it takes in areas of leadership development, IT, evaluation and compliance. It’s interesting but not overly useful to ‘rank’ a focus area without coherent linkage across all areas if we are to build the capacity and contribution of the sector. #charities
In one of the largest surveys of its type, Charities Minister Andrew Leigh provides a snapshot of the results from his office' investigation into the issues that matter to the charity and not-for-profit sector. Read the full story in the Community Advocate

🌟 3750km and Counting – Our Journey to 5000km for Dignity Kitchen! 🌟 As we approach the final stretch of our incredible 5000km running journey for 2024, I'm thrilled to share that we’ve officially reached 3750 kilometers! It’s been an amazing challenge so far, filled with ups and downs, but we’re powering through for a great cause – Dignity Kitchen in Hong Kong. From running across Hong Kong, Mainland China, Thailand, Malaysia, the UK, Germany, and the US, we’ve been pushing ourselves every step of the way. Our latest race, the 40km Moontrekker Overnight Race, was another thrilling achievement, which we completed in 7 hours through the dark hills of Lantau. But it’s not over yet! We still have one more massive challenge on the horizon: the North Face 100km race, which will round out our running season and bring us to our goal. Kristina Snaith-Lense and I are doing all of this to raise awareness and support for Dignity Kitchen, a wonderful initiative that empowers the less fortunate by giving them the skills and opportunities to lead a dignified life. Now, more than ever, we need your help to make a bigger impact. 👉 Join us in supporting this great cause! Whether you’re able to donate or spread the word, every bit counts. Let’s continue to make a difference together. https://lnkd.in/gzMA3ybF Thank you for all your support, and let’s keep running towards the finish line – for both our journey and the lives we’re helping to improve. #RunningForACause #DignityKitchenHK #5000kmChallenge #EnduranceJourney #DonateNow #NorthFace100 #Teamwork #CommunityImpact #MakeADifference
