This is massive. After our move, we went from a breakfast/snack/lunch/snack school to just a morning/afternoon snack school. Both phenomenal (and fee paying) schools, but the difference is immense. I am incredibly grateful to be in a position to have sent my daughter to the schools I have, and am by no means comparing my experience to the struggles others face, but even just this small change amounts to so much work. For those that think it’s just “throwing food in a box”: First it is ensuring you have said food to throw in a box. Nutritious breakfast foods don’t travel well and/or are disproportionately messy to eat at school when dealing with 1-5 year olds. Lunches? “Just use dinner food.” Okay sure, let me figure out additional quantities to meals to ensure there are left overs that Little would be willing to eat, and eat cold. Skipped a shop, because you figured you’d go next day when Little is at school, only to realize you now don’t have a lunch option? It is a MASSIVE change even to those not facing food instability. Have y’all ever been Hangry? Or had a hangry co-worker you’ve thrown a candy bar at to get them out of the rut and be productive? Now imagine that feeling as a kid supposed to sit and patiently learn all while dealing with all the other concerns and struggles hormones provide. I’m sure sure there will be naysayers and those bemoaning “hand outs” etc., but the joy this seemingly simple change has brought me on behalf of children and adults I’ve never met and will likely never meet, helps me believe that my hope for humanity is still alive! Thanks as ever to Sami Unrau for uplifting and positive content! #freemeals #freebreakfast #freelunch #workingparents
Global Director Consumer Experience Ops (Social, Apps, Consumer Service Experience) | NIKE FAMILIES - CARE COUNCIL | Views are my own and do not reflect that of my employer
Our school district announced that starting next year, all students will be able to receive a free breakfast and lunch every day at school. I’m celebrating for all those kids who will now have no-questions-asked access to two meals a day. And I am celebrating for all the families for whom this will be a lift of multiple varieties of burdens. Whether it’s the burden of affording the food, or planning for and providing it daily for kids before and as they head out the door, this benefits all families, working parents and otherwise. When we support kids, we support working families. It takes a village.

"Kindness has the power to transform lives, and it starts with one simple act. Today, I’m reaching out to ask for your kindness to help children who need it most. At our orphanage, we care for fifty-five incredible children, and every day brings its challenges—especially when it comes to feeding and supporting them. But with your help, we can do more than just provide for their basic needs. We can offer them hope, education, and a future full of possibilities. No act of kindness is too small. Together, we can stand as a community, united by compassion, and make a lasting impact on these children’s lives. Let’s show the world what kindness can do. 💙 #KindnessInAction #SupportTheChildren #FromStreetToHome #MakeADifference"

As winter sets in and temperatures drop, the cost of keeping a home warm climbs—creating significant challenges for many families in Howard County. For neighbors already stretched thin by rising living costs, this season often means tough choices: heating their homes, putting food on the table, paying rent, or covering childcare and other essential expenses. The housing crisis and increasing utility bills only deepen the strain, leaving many families in need of a lifeline. Your generosity powers the Community Action Council of Howard County's (CAC) vital programs, including housing assistance, food support, energy assistance, weatherization, and early childhood education. These services provide tangible relief to our neighbors, helping them overcome financial hardship—not just during the holidays, but all year long. There are only 22 days left in the Season of Hope! Don’t wait to make a difference. Every dollar you give changes lives—turning uncertainty into stability and struggle into strength. Together, we can bring warmth, comfort, and hope to those who need it most. Give Today: www.cac-hc.org/SOH2024 #SeasonOfHope2024 #HoCoCAC #BeCommunityAction

The 8 Essential Elements of Beloved Community. 7. Courage (to see what is, face harm, and transform) Ultimately, Beloved Community is also about developing our capacity to see what is, know what we long for, face the places of harm, and transform them. Beloved Community is purposeful - it’s about creating the experience of love and belonging for ourselves and everyone else too. Over the coming weeks, we will be sharing the 8 Essential Elements of Beloved Community and following up each with related questions for all of us to consider, share, engage, and put into practice in our own lives and communities. #Courage #Tranformation #Community #BelovedCommunity #MartinLutherKing #MLK #BelovedCommunitiesNetwork

One of the reasons why we do what we do at Sirat - The Cleft Warriors Ensemble This indeed made our day! To know more about us, check out the link below: https://lnkd.in/dkejemAh
A simple and beautiful example as to why communities are important 👇🏻 A new parent in our Sirat - The Cleft Warriors Ensemble community recently shared that their unborn baby will have a cleft lip and palate. With support and determination, they’ve chosen to embrace the journey ahead. I was glad to see this message in the morning, it's an affirmation of the message we're trying to convey about Sirat and what people can expect. Sirat exists to ensure that families facing cleft know they're not alone. We connect parents with a supportive network, expert advice, and resources to navigate this path together. Help us reach more families—contribute here or share this post to spread the word. Contribute to the campaign here: https://lnkd.in/gXgWXwB8

With that can come discord and disconnect. No one WANTS to stop talking to their family. 𝗧𝗶𝗽𝘀 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗮 𝗴𝗿𝗲𝗲𝗻𝗲𝗿 𝗛𝗮𝗹𝗹𝗼𝘄𝗲𝗲𝗻 - The Switch Witch. I’d like to thank whichever smart person invented the concept of the Switch Witch, who comes to children on Halloween night, replacing their candy with a prize of your choosing. After all, kids don’t need all that candy! But neither do their parents, so what to do with the overflow (once you’ve sorted out the good stuff for yourself, of course!)? 𝗜𝗗𝗘𝗔: Operation Gratitude, which ships the candy to U.S. Troops, is one possibility. Other local options include dropping it off at children’s hospitals, homeless shelters or food pantries, or nursing homes.
