🌍💚 Tomorrow is World Mental Health Day! 💚🌍 Since 1992, October 10th has been dedicated to raising awareness about mental health issues and promoting the importance of mental well-being. Mental health challenges affect people of all ages, but the impact on youth is especially alarming. According to the WHO, 1 in 7 adolescents experience mental disorders, with depression and anxiety being among the most common. LGBTQ+ youth are at a higher risk, often facing isolation, discrimination, and bullying, contributing to increased rates of depression, anxiety, and suicide attempts. Our Behavioral Health Program is committed to providing compassionate, affirming care to all young people at Radiant Health Centers. We offer counseling, mental health support, and safe spaces for LGBTQ+ youth to thrive. Let’s continue to advocate for mental health support and break the stigma surrounding mental health issues. Together, we can help every young person feel seen, supported, and valued. #WorldMentalHealthDay #YouthMentalHealth #RadiantHealthCenters #LGBTQSupport #BreakTheStigma #MentalHealthMatters #BehavioralHealth #CareForAll

As we conclude Mental Health Awareness Month, we turn our focus to building support for mental well-being in the LGBTQIA+ community. Inclusive families, schools, and societies play a crucial role in supporting the mental health of LGBTQIA+ individuals. Family support is particularly important for LGBTQIA+ youth, as it can significantly reduce their risk of depression, substance use, and suicide. Schools and workplaces also have a vital role in creating supportive and inclusive environments that protect the mental health of LGBTQIA+ people. Social support from friends, families, and communities helps LGBTQIA+ individuals feel loved and accepted, while peer support can be a lifeline for those facing mental health challenges. Acknowledging and celebrating LGBTQIA+ identities builds self-confidence and emotional well-being. Let's work together to create a more inclusive and supportive world. 💖 #MentalHealthAwareness #LGBTQIA #SupportAndLove #InclusiveCommunities #Pride

Health care, social work, education, mental health -- How do we support accessibility in our helping professions? We love the open minds and big hearts that are so often part of why people choose a career in a helping profession. How do we support accessibility in those spaces? ✅ Distinguish between empathy and sympathy -- steer clear of pity when offering support. ✅Be mindful of Helper Syndrome -- when the professional's need to help overrides the disabled person's rights to autonomy and empowerment. ✅ Understand your own history and relationship with disability, and how it shapes your approach to your work. Let's address ableism in our helping professions and remember that equity occurs one intentional and thoughtful act at a time. #DisabilityIsHuman #Disability #Healthcare #SocialWork #Education #Equity

🌟 Today marks World Teen Mental Wellness Day! 🌟 School-age children face unique challenges when it comes to mental health. A recent survey by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in 2021 highlighted an alarming increase in mental health challenges, experiences of violence, and thoughts of self-harm among teens. These struggles are even more pronounced among minorities, girls, and teens identifying as LGBTQ+. Experts stress the importance of starting conversations with our #children about mental health, and middle school is a crucial time to do so. It's never too early to equip them with the tools and support they need. With intention, we can break the #stigma surrounding mental health and create a safe space for these discussions. Check out SoundItOutTogether.org for free tips, conversation starters, and valuable tools to help navigate these crucial conversations. Hello everyone, I recently participated in an enlightening session in collaboration with Naaz and the The Connect Hut , Unkahi Helpline, led by Sachin Chitambaran Sir. This initiative emphasizes the importance of mental health awareness, particularly within the LGBTQ community. One key takeaway was the understanding that suicide is not a sign of weakness; rather, it often stems from deep emotional pain. It's crucial to recognize that having suicidal thoughts is a symptom of this pain, and we need to focus on addressing the pain itself rather than just providing solutions. We discussed the importance of having a safety or well-being plan. This includes identifying three personal warning signs that indicate when we might be struggling. Additionally, we should think of three healthy coping mechanisms that help us calm down—these could be activities that bring us joy or relaxation, but they should not involve unhealthy habits like excessive social media use, sleep disruptions, or alcohol. Lastly, it’s vital to identify three trusted individuals we can reach out to for support. Building a network of trust is essential in navigating through tough times. Let’s continue to foster open conversations about mental health and support one another. Thank you.

On #Worldsuicidepreventionday, we need to remember the importance of providing mental health support and care to EVERYONE; whoever they are. - LGBT+ people are at more risk of suicidal behaviour and self-harm than non-LGBT+ people. - Gay and bisexual men are 4 times more likely to attempt suicide across their lifetime than the rest of the population. - LGBT+ people are 1½ times more likely to develop depression and anxiety disorder than the rest of the population. - Nearly 7 out of 10 trans people had experienced depression in the previous year. And nearly 5 out of 10 had thought of ending their life. (Rethink Mental Illness, Dec 2023)

Our volunteers are specially trained to provide non-judgmental support, offering a safe space for anyone in need. Whether you're struggling with your mental health, identity, or feeling isolated, we’re here to listen, every single day. You are never alone. Reach out to talk with someone today.
