Heather Smith GAICD posted about this zoom this week and I made the following comment which I’ve reposted to hopefully get a few more registrations. Farhad Billimoria touched on this topic in his recent electricity markets lecture at Macquarie University for their Transforming Energy Markets (TEM) Research Centre. One question I raised is does the options I advance for demand side management (essentially summed up as “Energy Cost Efficiency”) pose a risk of “market failure”. The question that follows though is do we have the right market - should one “fail” to make way for another? Further, picking up a point in your OP the rate of return is not the key determinant (imho) but rather risk. At the moment esp with RTS operating outside the market, but impacting on it, it is becoming an almost insurmountable risk for commercial solar development. … and we are about to make the same mistake with subsidies for BTM batteries.
