🤝C o o r d i n a t i n g A c t i o n🤝 among sub-national women‘s rights networks Project experiences.Know-how. At a glance. Topic: Gender Equality Limited engagement, cohesion and coordination of grassroots and community-based Women’s Rights Organisations (WROs) at the sub-national levels affected activism and strategic advocacy for promotion of women’s rights and gender equality. This limited the extent to which issues at the local level were reflected and fed into national level advocacy. In addition, there were no mechanisms for sustaining initiatives beyond the project life, or replicating and cascading them to other areas, especially lower levels not previously targeted. The solution was to coordinate collective community-centred action among District Women‘s Networks, facilitating their growth and participation, cohesion, ownership, and sustainability of initiatives. 🌍Partner organisation - Uganda Women’s Network (UWONET) 👉https://www.uwonet.or.ug/ 💬What was the experience? 🌟 Collaborating on the FEMACT-Cities project, the Municipality of Postojna is committed to achieving #genderequality at local level. We spoke to the coordinator of the local working group, mag. Anita Knez, who gave us an overview of their approach to creating a more #inclusive and #equitable #community for all. 📝 You are working on a Local Action Plan. This will be based on a review of European policies and the local situation in the field of gender equality. The document will outline actions over the next five years. What activities are you planning? 🤝 As the local working group, we will become a commission dedicated to advancing gender equality. Our primary goal is to heighten public awareness regarding the obstacles encountered by women and other vulnerable groups, while also empowering them. All activities will follow these objectives. ✨ We will organize various events to raise awareness about stereotyping and violence against women. We will carry out awareness-raising activities in kindergartens and primary schools. We will organize "Girl Days" and "Boy Days" to inform the public about traditional male and female occupations. We will hold exhibitions addressing traditional social roles. 👧🧑 We also plan to publish Portraits of Successful Women through our channels and initiate a collection campaign to gather supplies for our Safe House. We also plan to support co-funding of vacation care and house help as well as advocate for a more gender-balanced naming of streets and squares. The FEMACT-Cities project is implemented under the URBACT IV programme and co-funded by the European Union. #FemactCities #EquityCities #UrbanaPolitics #Urbact #GenderEquality #WorldWomensDay #EUprojects

In our joint #HowToTalkWithMen campaign, we’re amplifying inspiring, everyday stories of change among men and boys for gender equality. This powerful video from our partners at Hami Daju Vai highlights how open conversations can transform perspectives, attitudes, and lives. 🎥 👤 Ashok Shiwakoti (MenEngage Nepal and South Asia Regional Committee Member, General Secretary of Hami DajuVai) shared that: Men’s engagement is crucial, but it’s about transforming all levels of society—households, culture, religion, and policy. Young boys, educators, and policymakers are vital for driving meaningful change. Patriarchy limits everyone, including men, and it’s time to challenge those limits. 👤 Bibek Magar (MenEngage Nepal and South Asia Youth Advisor, representing #LGBTQI+ rights) talked of the need to practice empathy. Conversations about gender and LGBTQI+ rights must happen without judgment. It’s not about correcting opinions but creating safe spaces for dialogue, understanding, and growth. 👩 Barsha Thapa Magar (Program Coordinator, Hami DajuVai) said: "When we normalize conversations about gender equality and encourage men’s participation, we pave the way for a more equitable society." 💬 Together, these voices remind us that change begins with conversation. In Meghalaya, a state known for its matrilineal society, systemic barriers have long hindered women's involvement in public affairs. To address this, the Meghalaya government has implemented various mechanisms, including Self Help Groups (SHGs) and Village Employment Councils (VHC) led by women. Marking a significant step towards gender equality and inclusive growth, these initiatives empower women to actively participate in community development. By harnessing the potential of women through these programs, Meghalaya is poised to see improvements in its Human Development indicators. #MeghalayaWomen #EmpowermentInitiatives #GenderEquality #InclusiveGrowth #CommunityDevelopment #SHGs #VillageEmploymentCouncils #MatrilinealSociety #SystemicBarriers #HumanDevelopmentIndicators #VEC #SHG #Meghalayagovernment #Meghalaya #HealthcareInnovation

The latest OECD - OCDE snapshot on ODA assistance for #gender #equality reveals a concerning trend: the share of development finance for gender equality decreased after a decade of progress—from 45% in 2019-20 to 43% in 2021-22. Alarmingly, less than 1% of ODA is aimed at ending violence against #women and girls. When analyzing how gender is integrated by sector, the #data shows particularly low investment in #humanitarian aid (18%). You can see the full charts here 👇 https://lnkd.in/d6Y-XvsB These figures are worrying, especially when evidence demonstrates that integrating gender equality across sectors can enhance the #effectiveness and #sustainability of interventions. I discussed this with Julieta Mendez at the last #FocalPoint Conference in NYC. I enjoyed and learned a lot from the discussion, and it was evident how impactful it is to address gender equality in non-gender-specific conferences. When development practitioners are exposed to the #genderlens, they can reflect on their practices and see how their application makes a significant difference. As one participant told me, 'This workshop is a before and after in my work,' and I couldn't be happier. Thank you so much, OLAM, for bringing together a network of amazing professionals committed to making the world a fairer place.

No country in the world provides equal opportunity for women in the workplace. By taking women’s experiences of violence and childcare into account for the first time, research from the World Bank revealed an equality gap much larger than previously thought, including in the world’s wealthiest countries. Due to the nature of our work, the humanitarian and development sector can present additional challenges to encouraging the inclusion and equality of opportunity for women. This #InternationalWomensDay, Valerie McFarlane, Concern’s Head of Workplace Equality, Diversity and Inclusion, explains how Concern rises to these challenges to promote gender equality. #genderequality #inspireinclusion #IWD24 #womenintheworkplace https://bit.ly/43pf7sl

[FEMACT-Cities] As we celebrate #WorldWomensDay this week, we will be sharing our efforts to create a more just and inclusive society for all. 🌟 The Municipality of Postojna is participating in the FEMACT-Cities #project, aimed at developing policies to ensure gender equality in urban environments. We've invited the project leader, MAJA PIŠKUR, to tell us more about the purpose of this innovative project. 🎯 What is the aim of Femact-Cities? The Femact-Cities project aims to support city partnerships in implementing sustainable urban strategies that consider the various objectives of cohesion policy. 🌍 By impartially engaging all stakeholders, the project promotes freedom and empowerment of vulnerable groups, across different areas such as security, education, and economic autonomy. Together, we address challenges like promoting gender equality in all policies, educating on the importance of gender equality, and supporting stakeholders working to improve gender equality. 🌍 The primary objective of Femact-Cities is to contribute to creating a more inclusive and equitable environment for all citizens. The project brings together 8 partners from 7 European countries, each of whom will develop a local action plan for gender equality. These plans will innovatively address key challenges faced by women and other vulnerable groups in each city, whether in the labour market, childcare, or urban life itself. 💡 Photo: Project partners at the thematic seminar in Coimbra, Portugal. CIM Região de Coimbra The FEMACT-Cities project is implemented under the URBACT IV programme and is co-funded by the European Union. #FemactCities #EquityCities #UrbanPolitics #genderequality #Urbact #Postojna
