Free shuttles from Foxton Beach Centre help locals access health services Two new shuttle buses will help reduce feelings of isolation for residents of towns like Shannon, Foxton Beach, and Himatangi. The shuttles are run by the Foxton Beach Community Centre, which currently has three shuttles running, and two more on the way. President of the community centre Lyal Brenton said they are a vital tool in helping prevent feelings of loneliness or being cut off from the community.Shuttles are completely free to use and provide people in isolated Horowhenua towns with transportation to Foxton, Levin, and Palmerston North for health and wellbeing purposes, such as medical appointments, hairdressing appointments, and more. The centre fundraised for their fourth vehicle, a Kia Seltos, through their op shop and by running weekly garage sales, and the fifth, a Toyota Rav 4 hybrid, has been donated to them by the Horowhenua New Zealand Trust. Brenton said once they get the fifth shuttle it will be mainly used for transporting people to Foxton and back, as the other shuttles can be gone for some time when taking people further away. https://lnkd.in/gY27E9q5

about a #month ago I did a little #basicfirstaid skills to #church members of the church I fellowship at back in the #village. what led me to doing this is #thelackofknowledge of #simplequickresponses they could use before help gets their way or before getting to go run about trying to hassle a #vehicle to take them to #hospital. I know you are wondering what kind of village is that? yes my home village which to my understanding is actually #similar to do many other villages and communities out here. #Accessibilitytoemergency health care in our village setting is sometimes challenging, #transport #money and the #proximity of a well equipped facility are some of the factors that come in between the #goldenhour in many emergency cases. After the service, ( #btw it was in between the service, the church gives the nurse 15 minutes every time she is in to talk about different conditions, which is thoughtful and really helpful.) I got #somefeedback , a positive one: #thatwouldreallyhelpthemiftheyhadaproblem. I was happy I had made some impact, though a drop in the ocean but a life could be saved. I'm really praying and hoping I would get a team to help organize a good skills training session for my community. #prioritizingemergencycare and #accessible emergency care. . if interested you could reach out, including #donors and #sponsors, any little help would go a long way. #pov: the video is in Kikuyu🤭

This is the most important message for the UK today….. *Wes Streeting MP SoS Health & Social Care July 2024: “the policy of this department is that the NHS is broken” *Keir Starmer MP PM July 2024: “we have a more severe [financial] crisis than we thought as we go through the books of the last 14 years” *Wes Streeting MP 2023: “[The NHS needs to move] from an excessive focus on hospital care to more focus on neighbourhood and community services….and from sickness to preventio. In the recent past, the pressure to throw funding at the immediate problem of hospitals under strain has repeatedly scuppered the noble ambition to prioritise primary and community care. It must count as one of the most significant policy and practice failings of the past three decades.” The current NHS structures, focusing on illness and illness research, are broken and unaffordable, but the Government needs to continue to fund them while a new well – being strategy is put in place over the next 20 years and health and social care costs can start to be brought under control. The Government is now actively starting to pass the cost of the delivery of Healthy Communities onto the private sector via ESG Compliance and Social Value weighting within public sector contracting. The Covid Pandemic highlighted the inherent issues in the current health and social care system in the UK – but why had the situation arisen? 1. In 1948 the average life span was 68. 2. In 2024 the average life span is now 82 but the average healthy lifespan is still only 63 years. 3. The UK has become a victim of the outstanding success of the NHS in treating illness which has extended the UK citizens’ average life span; as a nation, citizens are being kept alive for longer but for the last twenty years of life (over 20%) with one, two or three chronic illnesses which are being treated at greater cost in Secondary Care and with an increasing need to access social care and mental health funding. 4. In 2024 the UK has more citizens over the age of 60 in poor health than in 1948 and a smaller percentage of the population of working age supporting the increasing burden on the health and social care systems. Dr M Dixon (Head of the Royal Medical Household) and Sir (Dr) Sam Everington (Former Chair of the London NHS CCGs): “Only 20% of a patient’s health and wellbeing comes from traditional services within the NHS. The other 80% is about connection to family and community, about physical activity and good food, about connection with nature, job, education, the environment and creative and spiritual needs.” Simply – we all need to Live Well for Longer How and whether we can meet this challenge in the UK over the next two decades will determine whether the NHS survives. 🌟 Exciting News for Texas Health Centers! 🌟 Last year, the Texas Department of State Health Services allocated $19.3 million in grants to Federally Qualified Health Centers and similar non-profit health centers, aiming for overall enhancements in healthcare delivery. This investment is a significant step towards bolstering community health services across the state. The grants, ranging from $500,000 to $1 million, were allocated to 35 different facilities, enabling much-needed renovations, staff expansion, and acquisition of advanced equipment, including mobile health units. These improvements are pivotal in ensuring better access to quality healthcare for Texans. Kim Roberts, Vice President for Advancement at Lone Star Circle of Care, highlighted the impact of these grants on enhancing healthcare provision, stating, “Support from DSHS has been vital to improving Lone Star Circle of Care’s capacity to provide comprehensive healthcare throughout Central Texas.” But the good news doesn't stop there! Texas Legislation has earmarked an additional $40 million in grants for eligible Federally Qualified Health Centers and non-profit health centers, with aspirations to become FQHCs in 2024. This presents an incredible opportunity for healthcare facilities to further enhance their services. If you're part of an eligible health facility, don't miss out on this opportunity! Visit https://lnkd.in/gjBYGb6a to explore the available options and kickstart your application process.
