Key highlights include: 📊 Significant Differences in Biological and Economic Variables: The study found substantial variations between small and large ponds, with small ponds outperforming large ones in terms of the benefit-cost ratio. 🌐 Global Shrimp Trade Insights: Shrimp remains the most traded seafood globally, with Indonesia playing a pivotal role thanks to the introduction of Litopenaeus vannamei. 🔍 Detailed Methodology: Conducted in the Pacitan district, East Java, the study used structured questionnaires and multivariate statistical analysis to assess profitability, production costs, and input intensity across 40 farms. 📈 Key Findings: Small ponds had higher stocking densities and survival rates. Large ponds incurred higher costs for seed, feed, labor, and electricity. Principal component analysis highlighted significant cost variations between the two pond sizes. We were honoured and delighted to share our family's effort at the Gaharu Bumi Festival this year. I and my sister participated in the Gaharu Bumi Challenge, which was organised by Ashoka Indonesia in association with the Kok Bisa organisation and supported by Ministry of Home Affairs (Kemendagri) and Ford Foundation. We came with the initiative of our family "Satya Farm" (IG: @satya.farm). We have constructed a food forest on 3,000 square metres of land in the middle of 2021. We have no doubt that a Food Forest is achievable for everyone. Do you own any undeveloped land? Try to cultivate your food so you will know where it comes from and don't deny your land. If your only intention is to plant, our food forest may provide you with local seeds. The concept of food forests is not self-oriented; rather, it demands the involvement and care of the community. If you are a consumer, we encourage you to purchase the produces/products from food forests and other sustainable agricultural practices. Hello Everyone! I'm thrilled to announce the official publication of my Social Survey Research Article, "Dragon Fruit Cultivation, Profitability, and Production Efficiency in Southern Terai, Nepal." I owe a debt of gratitude to my amazing co-authors, whose steadfast support and direction made this accomplishment possible. Contributing to the body of open-access knowledge in the field of study is incredibly thrilling. You only need to click on the paper to go into the realm of my research! 😗 Dragon fruit's unique look, health advantages, and environmental sustainability have made it an icon of the organic movement. One of the biggest producers of dragon fruit, Vietnam, has witnessed a significant increase in the use of organic farming practices; by 2022, over 65% of dragon fruit will be cultivated organically. In addition, Nepal has produced more dragon fruit in the last several years than ever before. With a projected value of USD 10.85 billion in 2021 and a projected value of USD 20.03 billion by 2031, the global dragon fruit powder market is anticipated to expand at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 4.6% between 2022 and 2031. This article discusses the initial economics of setting up a dragonfruit farm as well as the demand from the past and the present market conditions. 🌳 We are delighted to see A Little Wild, a regenerative farm located in Kota Tinggi just north of Singapore, featured in this The Straits Times article. At Mana Impact, we consider ourselves friends of A Little Wild and its founders. The farm embodies many of the same values that we seek to obtain in the world. Some of these are featured in the article such as: 🌾 Regeneration and sustainability: The farm was generated on depleted soil from a former palm oil plantation. Using the methods of syntropic agroforestry along with a heavy dose of love and care from Jun Ning Wee, Imran Hassan, and Will Khi Sui CHUA, the farm is on a path to bring us healthier food while restoring soil conditions at the farm. 🦧 Respect for the eco-system and nature: Mimicking nature, espousing biodiversity, and avoiding the use of pesticides and other harmful chemicals. 👩🌾 Being ecological can be financially viable: A Little Wild is doing something very important by paving the way towards making their endeavours profitable. This is important not only to grow their team but also to encourage other emerging or present farmers to make the same transition. 🤲 Advocacy and learnings: The training sessions that A Little Wild hold regularly is a great way to inspire particularly city dwellers in Johor and Singapore to learn to appreciate land and nature. There are also many community leanings and metaphors associated with their practices, as captured in the following phrase included in the article: "Just as people’s grandparents and parents created good lives for them, the pioneering early-stage trees and shrubs—such as acacia, cassava and Mexican sunflower—paved the way for the next generation of plants to thrive. Dr javed Tareen , an eminent figure and Technical Member of the Chief Minister’s Inspection Team, Government of Balochistan, took centre stage to provide a comprehensive presentation. His insights were nothing short of invaluable, covering topics ranging from the nutritional composition of grapes, production hubs within Pakistan, therapeutic properties inherent in grapes, challenges faced in grape cultivation and processing, global perspectives on grape value addition, and the untapped potential for value-added grape products within Pakistan. Alliance of Bioversity International and CIAT had the privilege of attending a Farmer Field Day in Gaturi, Murang’a, where we delved into the transformative world of Conservation Agriculture under the Accelerating Impacts of CGIAR Climate Research for Africa (AICCRA) project on scaling validated CSA/CIS technologies Led by #Murang’a County Government- Department of Agriculture, African Conservation Tillage Network (ACTN), farmers, among other stakeholders, this learning event showcased innovative conservation agriculture techniques aimed at promoting #sustainable farming practices and bolstering agricultural productivity. From minimum tillage to strategic crop rotation of maize and beans (Pana Maize seeds and Nyota beans) to incorporation of cover crops (e.g. Njahi, Thoroko, Njugu), each demonstration plot illuminated the benefits of conservation agriculture on soil health, moisture retention, and biodiversity. Farmers also had the opportunity to share some of the benefits and challenges they experienced with implementing these CA practices. Key benefits are soil conservation, farm residue utilization, increased crop productivity, and time and labor used is reduced. Some of the challenges they faced also included delays in planting due to erratic weather patterns and the need for support in various aspects like water conservation, soil testing, and access to farming equipment and farm resources such as crops, fertilizers, and PPEs. Farmers in the region also stated that they would need help in the establishment of water pans in their region, and introduction to integrated farming to enable diversification.   Murang’a County Agricultural Director Mr. Peter Muchiri noted that a significant challenge in certain areas of Murang'a County is the conservation and enhancement of soil health to ensure its long-term productivity and environmental sustainability. However, he highlighted that the Conservation Agriculture (CA) approach can be implemented to enhance soil health, promote agroecosystem sustainability, minimize the associated consequences of soil degradation, and ensure food security and sustainable development.
