🌍 Excited to share insights from our recent conversation with Jānis Volberts from Bellona Europa! We delved into the crucial role of European ports in industrial decarbonization, especially focusing on CCS solutions. 🎯 Aligned with the European Commission's ambitious target of 50 million tonnes per year of CO2 storage capacity by 2030, Bellona emphasizes the scope of ports to act as regional CO2 hubs. These hubs are vital for maximizing cost-efficiency and enabling shared infrastructure, particularly beneficial for small to medium-sized emitters that may lack direct access to maritime or pipeline infrastructure. 💡However, challenges persist, including economic burdens on SMEs and infrastructure gaps for stranded emitters. At LogiCarbon, we're tackling these challenges head-on by developing a digital tool to identify CO2 hubs and establish multi-modal routes. Beyond the Netherlands, our discussion with Jānis explored how this solution could also extend to the Baltic region. 🚀Excited to be at the forefront of driving impactful solutions for industrial decarbonization and paving the way towards a more sustainable future! #CCS #Decarbonization #Sustainability #BellonaEuropa

More than 3000 participants gather at the #ConnectingEurope Days in #Brussels this week. I had the pleasure to attend today and also moderate a panel session. My take-aways: • "Connecting Europe" means "more #Europe not less" • "Connecting Europe" not only refers to the #EU27 but also partners such as Moldova and Ukraine. • "Connecting Europe" means there are lots of infrastructure projects currently hampering traffic across the bloc but eventually they're creating sustainable and smooth national and cross-border #mobility • "Connecting Europe" takes #climate change into account investing in #green mobility solutions. And that's where my #panel session on #hydrogen powered heavy-duty road transport came in. Trucks must reduce their carbon footprint - and fast. But it's complex: • for #hauliers switching entire fleets to H2 is very expensive - maybe too expensive? • truck manufacturers need to sell trucks - so they need to know that their clients are willing to pay that not so little extra for H2 trucks. • H2 is only a clean alternative if it's green hydrogen - but there's not that much around (yet) and others (#aviation, #shipping, #rail) want it too. • and consumers also need to trust in H2 #technology so that policy makers have their support when launching respective #funding programmes My panellists were optimistic that we make progress despite the challenges. Well, come #2030 trucks will have to reduce greehouse gas emissions by 45%. If they make it my panellists were right 😉

[International Day of #CleanAir for Blue Skies] Air pollution not only darkens our skies but also poses serious risks to human health and the ecosystem. As we observe the International Day of Clean Air for Blue Skies, Towngas is proud to contribute to a clearer atmosphere through various clean energy solutions, including #hydrogen. In Hong Kong, air pollution primarily stems from motor vehicles, marine vessels, and power plants. Hydrogen presents a viable solution, generating no byproducts other than water and heat when used in fuel cells to power cars, and other applications. The HKSAR Government has recognised the potential of hydrogen as a low-carbon energy source in its Strategy of Hydrogen Development. With approximately half of our town gas composition being hydrogen and our extensive network coverage, developing hydrogen energy has become a key focus for our Group. This year, we developed Hong Kong’s first green hydrogen pilot project at a landfill in Tseung Kwan O, utilising biogas. Set to begin production in 2025, this project aims to produce around 330 kg of hydrogen daily—enough to power seven to eight hydrogen buses for a full day’s mileage. This project will help position Hong Kong as one of the few cities in the world capable of self-producing green hydrogen. As the development of new energy speeds up, Towngas will continue to leverage its experience and innovations to create a brighter future for all. #Towngas #NewEnergy #BlueSkies #AirQuality #Sustainability

I was delighted to participate yesterday in the Clean Energy Transition Dialogues on Clean Mobility that took place in the European Commission. This high-level meeting was organised by Ursula von der Leyen, Maroš Šefčovič and Adina Valean to hear the views of the 24 high-level representatives of main stakeholders from the transport sector on how to ensure the transition to clean transport, strengthen the business case for accelerating #decarbonisation of transport sector in #Europe and what obstacles remain. The CEOs of KLM Royal Dutch Airlines, Neste, Wizz Air and top executives from other companies in the road, maritime and aviation sectors participated, along with Director Generals from industry and civil Associations, such as European Automobile Manufacturers' Association (ACEA), European Community Shipowners' Associations (ECSA), T&E etc. We had the opportunity to discuss the key barriers and challenges in relation to the transition towards an affordable zero-emission #mobility to citizens while ensuring the competitiveness of EU industry and businesses. In my intervention, I had the opportunity to highlight that the transformation of the fuel manufacturing Industry has already started. We are transforming our assets, converting refineries into bio-refineries, investing in new sustainable fuels projects, Green Hydrogen, CCUS, RES, e-charging and hydrogen refuelling infrastructure. However, crucial challenges remain ahead, if we want #Europe to lead the way and cover its needs with sustainable fuels produced mainly in the EU. A clear business case and the enabling conditions for investing in the EU are not yet in place. I referred to the challenges related to the lack of the enabling conditions that have to be addressed if Europe want to become attractive for these investments. In addition, I highlighted the need of a dedicated EU Liquid Fuels Transition Strategy, for an integrated approach for all transport modes, similar to Strategies that the EU launched for other new technologies, Hydrogen, Batteries, Critical Raw Materials. I thank Ursula von der Leyen, Maroš Šefčovič and Adina Valean for organising this dialogue where policy-makers, industry representatives and NGOs could sit together and exchange on how we can all contribute to meet the 2050’s climate objectives. We are looking forward to continuing a fruitful and constructive exchange of views and collaboration with the Commission and all stakeholders across the value chain.

November 14th marks the 20th annual Clean Air Day in Poland! 💨 This day serves as a powerful reminder of the importance of raising awareness about the causes and effects of air pollution and of supporting each other in building a cleaner tomorrow. Today, we’d like to highlight one of our contributions to this effort – our investment in a #hybrid vehicle fleet. We’re proud that 95% of our vehicles are hybrids, which has significantly helped us cut emissions and reduce fuel consumption. This step directly contributes to cleaner air and enables us to use resources more efficiently, creating both environmental and economic benefits. ✨ At Electrum, we address some of the biggest sources of air pollution, particularly by expanding our renewable energy projects. In Poland, where coal is heavily relied upon, we face high levels of particulate pollution, especially during the heating season, which started a few weeks ago. In response, government programs have been promoting the replacement of outdated coal-based heating systems with greener alternatives. Alongside these programs, raising #awareness of the benefits - both personal and collective - is essential for fostering real change to cleaner air and a healthier future. Real change doesn’t happen overnight, so our actions for cleaner air must be consistent, strategic and sustained over the long term. 🎯 Our investment in hybrid vehicles is just one part of a broader move toward sustainable transport. We’re proud that #95% of our fleet is low-emission, but we know it’s only a partial solution. To make meaningful progress, changes in transport must go hand-in-hand with modernizing industry and transforming our energy systems. We also recognize that technology continues to evolve, offering us more effective tools along the way. Electric vehicles, for example, emit very little pollution during use, but as we consider scaling up their adoption, we must ask a key question: How will the energy to power them be produced?💡 #CleanAirDayPoland #CleanAir #CleanTransport #Electrum
