HOTEL Video, HD, 2010 (12 min) In my video HOTEL (2010), existentialism meets sensuality. Four trainees are invited into the intimate space of a hotel, where they undergo a series of exercises blending performance art and confessional statements. Under the observant eyes of the superintendent, bellboy, and hotel owner, their actions are evaluated based on their submission to a cult-like belief system, while the hotel owner secretly sells their recorded performances online. What begins as a simple short film evolves into a living performance, using the hotel as a metaphor for our society—a system driven by competition and commercial interests, where identity and individuality are often sacrificed. The characters’ full immersion in the system parallels the psychological and authoritarian structures that shape modern culture. This work reflects the pressures of conformity, societal expectations, and the tension between performance and authenticity in both private and public life. Some could view Barron Hilton's former vision as just retro-futurist consumerism. However, the concept of his glamorous "Lunar Hilton" could've been realized in a post Apollo landing world. Some of the practical ideas for the hotel that Barron Hilton intended would've forced the resort industry to change its' game. This is assuming other resort companies (other than maybe Disney) could afford the infrastructure to build such feats. As in past posts, I've emphasized how the push to space won't be accelerated by scientific curiosity solely, yet the revolutionary steps relevant to the everyday person will come through space consumerism via space tourism. https://lnkd.in/gmgtSc6q
