Client Expectations. Tough, right? I attended a Pricelabs webinar on effective communication recently. It proved to be one of those vital issues that we as rev managers need to recognize and address early on. While we’re immersed in our long term vision, YoY growth strategy, and last minute evolving data, clients may see short term changes as permanent unless we explain the reasoning behind them. I'm not saying you must explain every reservation or setting or give away your secret sauce but make sure to set those expectations upfront. Takeaways I’d like to share: 1. Transparency is everything: Whether rates are being raised or slashed, promoted or upsold, it's critical to communicate the 'why' behind the changes. Helping long term clients understand that some adjustments are temporary and strategically aligned with market demand ensures they feel confident in the process. 2. Short-term vs. long-term pricing: Dynamic pricing is fluid, meant to seize short-term opportunities. Reinforcing this distinction early on can save a lot of trouble down the road. 3. Trust: At the heart of every pricing decision is trust. A little extra clarity can preserve that trust and help clients see the bigger picture. As your relationship strengthens, the need to explain will happen less and less. Figure out at the front end of things if this is something you're willing to do. As said in my previous article revenue management is more than just numbers—it’s about building a partnership with clients, rooted in transparency, understanding, and mutual goals.
