Happy National Public Health Week! One group in public health that supports civic engagement is Community Health Workers (CHWs). And an issue impacting CHWs that could be changed by civic engagement is CHW certification. You may have noticed that I took CHW off my profile. That’s because I was certified in a state with a state-operated program and then moved to a state without a program, meaning I could not transfer my certification, even though I continue to work on a significant public health issue: domestic abuse. And it turns out there is not yet a national certification program for CHWs, plus about half of all U.S. states don’t have a certification program. Should CHWs even have to be certified? Interested to hear your thoughts. #NPHW #NPHWChat #CHW #CommunityHealthWorker #PublicHealth #PublicHealthSocialWork #SocialWork #MacroSocialWork #MacroSW

What Is a Service Planning Area? A Service Planning Area, or SPA, is simply a specific geographic region within Los Angeles County. Due to the large size of LA County (4,300 square miles), it has been divided into 8 geographic areas. These distinct regions allow the Department of Public Health to develop and provide more relevant public health and clinical services targeted to the specific health needs of the residents in these different areas.

Matters are reaching a point of no return within social care, and this open letter to Helen Whateley MP, Minister for Health and Social Care, highlights the critical issues facing the social care sector. I personally (as will others within the industry) look forward to her response, and am hopeful for steps to be taken to improve these issues. #CareIndustry #OpenLetter #SocialCare

PBS on public health begins tonight, The Invisible Shield. Given how much work so many of our public libraries are doing to foster healthy communities through education, activities, programs, services, and partnerships - and given how even the US Surgeon General is naming libraries as a pillar in public health, it's worth taking a second to view. https://lnkd.in/gskU-V77
