CenterPoint Energy is “reassessing the use” of its private Chambers County retreat, colloquially known as “The Pond,” as a space to wine and dine Texas lawmakers, the company’s chief executive said. The country lodge off of Trinity Bay has been key to CenterPoint’s lobbying efforts for decades. More than 70 current or former state and local elected officials said they have visited, reported spending campaign funds on trips there or were shown on the grounds in public images posted on social media, a Houston Chronicle investigation found in August. If you do only one thing for our campaign this year, make it be this! An IMPORTANT message from Operations and Communications Director, Joseph Bonasia: "Florida will never be the same again, not after suffering monstrous back-to-back hurricanes just two years after Ian. For my wife and me (and many or our neighbors) for whom Ian was a learning experience, last week was all about urgent and thorough preparation, taking all the measures we could to avoid having our home flooded again. We were lucky this time around, and I hope you were, too, but I believe we all recognize that we are in a new era of terrible superstorms, when natural disasters don't feel natural anymore. I also hope that deeper, more important lessons have been learned about respecting Nature's laws and limitations and what happens when we don't. Of course, this year's presidential election looms large in everyone’s minds. So much is at stake, including the impact that a new administration will have on environmental policy. Given all the above, I know it is easy to de-prioritize a Right to Clean Water. But Election Day is an opportunity to gather enough petitions to make a dramatic difference in our RTCW campaign, which, in turn, can help ensure we do respect Nature's laws and limitations. I’m asking you to spend four hours on Election Day collecting signatures. Perhaps gathering petitions is not your thing. I understand. It's not mine either, but I'll be at my assigned polling place, working the lines, getting as many signatures as possible, making the most of this opportunity. Don’t think that plenty of other volunteers will be out there and that we don’t need you. We need as many people as we can get, and we haven’t gotten nearly as many as we need. Please sign up here to collect petitions on Election Day or during Early Voting. Ask a friend to join you. https://lnkd.in/eD48jWSr This Thursday evening at 6pm, we are hosting a coordination meeting for everyone who intends to help at the polls. I urge you to attend. Please register for that meeting here. We will discuss logistics, provide basic training, and offer online materials so you will be as prepared as you need to be to make this day highly productive and enjoyable. https://lnkd.in/eKBregpU If you do only one thing for our campaign this year, make it be this!"

Not my usual take – Here in Minnesota there is a very important ballot measure for citizens to consider in November. Yes, we have a presidential and congressional elections, but Minnesota voters will decide whether to renew a proposal that earmarks a portion of the state’s lottery proceeds for funding conservation, clean water, arts, and parks projects. In 1988, Minnesota voters both cleared the way for creation of the lottery, but they also approved a constitutional amendment that dedicates the resulting funding “for the public purpose of protection, conservation, preservation and enhancement of the state’s air, water, land, fish, wildlife and other natural resources.” Each year, the Legislative-Citizen Commission on Minnesota Resources (LCCMR) approves millions of dollars from the Environment and Natural Resources Trust Fund to environmental and natural resource projects around the state. This is a great, long-lasting benefit for the citizens of the state. So please, get out and vote, and it's critical you fill out the lottery proceeds portion of your ballot, as leaving that question 'blank' counts as a NO vote. So take the time to vote, and don't forget to fill in the lottery-related ballot measure. Read more - https://lnkd.in/gRi8Nj3a

Your voice is needed to secure the wins promised by the passage of Oregon's Private Forest Accord in 2022. Because this historic law is NOT a done deal. Right now, the state hasn’t fully committed to fund critical PFA grants and programs to make sure the law's new rules are working. Without more support for PFA's rollout, it doesn’t have a clear path to federal approval. We can’t afford to go back to fights at the ballot box, expensive lawsuits, and painstaking progress to protect healthy forests and clean water. Can you send Governor Kotek an email RIGHT NOW to prioritize funding for the Private Forest Accord? CLINK https://bit.ly/3MXIXMU to take action!

This is great to see! These grants will be used to improve homes in underserved areas, providing cleaner and more affordable energy costs. Providing these opportunities to communities in need is imperative in improving conditions for them. "The HUD grants, established in 2022 with money from the Inflation Reduction Act, will also rehab properties in Michigan, Texas, California, Alabama, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Vermont, Washington and Wyoming. The IRA dedicated about $370 billion for climate and clean energy initiatives." #EnvironmentalJustice #UnderservedCommunities #CleanEnergy

🌳 One of the many reasons why protecting land in Tennessee is important! This quote was shared with us by a landowner in Hickman County named Bill McEwen, who worked with The Land Trust for Tennessee to protect his 170 acres in 2002. There is a certain amount of trust when donors make contributions of land and financial resources to organizations like the Audubon Society of Rhode Island. Is the organization fiscally secure? Does the organization follow the best practices for land acceptance and stewardship? Does the Board of Directors provide the highest standard of governance and transparency? Well … I am thrilled to say that when it comes to the Audubon Society of Rhode Island, the answer to all those questions is an emphatic YES! And don’t take my word for it. The Land Trust Alliance, the national leader in policy, standards, education, and training for land trusts, has just informed us that Audubon has been officially designated an Accredited Land Trust by their organization. This accreditation is a mark of distinction in land conservation. It is awarded only to land trusts meeting the highest national standards for excellence and conservation permanence. This has been a rigorous, multi-year process, and we now join a network of prestigious organizations united by strong ethical practices. By becoming accredited, Audubon has demonstrated fiscal accountability, strong organizational leadership, sound transactions, and lasting stewardship of the lands we conserve. This is a long day in coming; starting under former executive director Larry Taft, this has taken many hours, days, months, dare I say, years of tireless work by so many staff members and volunteers, assuring that we met the standards set out in the accreditation process. When we take on land to protect, we do so by promising that the protection is forever. This accreditation validates that Audubon has the policies and programs to keep this promise. It is an enormous responsibility, one which every member, staff, and volunteer has contributed to.

Yet another reason why a Richmond California transformation is so promising. Richmond is central to the obscene and aggressive maneuvering by the Fossil Fuel Industry and #BABS (bad acting billionaires). Raise enough money and we could expand scope to include both Solano and Contra Costa Counties in the pilot program for rapid transformation to planet positive, life affirming bioregional communities in service to all life. Time is not on our side. https://lnkd.in/g77Y7EzG
