The last two decades have seen significant advancements in our understanding of mitochondria and the causal genes involved in mitochondrial disorders. This explosion of information needed a 21st century response powerful enough to process the vast volume of data. 🌟 On this World Amyloidosis Day, we are proud to highlight Jacquie Baker, recipient of the CCS-Pfizer ATTR-CM 2023 Research Fellowship Award. 🔍 Jacquie is a postdoctoral associate at the Cumming School of Medicine in Calgary where she is studying the impact of autonomic health on #amyloidosis patients. When the autonomic nervous system is impaired, it can cause symptoms like lightheadedness, dizziness, difficulty regulating body temperature, and problems with blood pressure control. These challenges can impact daily activities, independence, and overall quality of life for patients. 💡 We are proud to support researchers like Jacquie and partner with organizations such as the Canadian Cardiovascular Society. In 2021, researchers at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine explored the use of a non-invasive handheld device for vagal nerve modulation in reducing the dependency on traditional rescue medications in gastroparesis patients suffering from unexplained nausea and vomiting. This study investigates the association between vitiligo and autoimmune co-morbidities in a US-based cohort using the All of Us database. By analyzing electronic health record data, researchers identified vitiligo patients using specific SNOMED codes.
