In this tutorial, I demonstrate how to create realistic damage on a Roman column using Boolean operations in 3ds Max. Starting with the model of the Roman column from the previous video, I use a separate 3D object to create damage effects. By applying the Boolean modifier, we subtract intersecting areas from the column, creating authentic-looking cracks and breaks. Perfect for enhancing historic or ruin scenes in your 3D environments!

Principles of Rotation in 3ds Max In this detailed tutorial, I demonstrate two essential principles of rotation in 3ds Max, which are crucial for anyone working with 3D objects. Learn how to rotate multiple 3D objects around a common center point, and also how to rotate them around their individual centers. These techniques are fundamental for accurate and efficient modeling.

Our 3D virtual tour service includes the ability for us to blur out sensitive parts of the scan. For example, if a feature of your space is sensitive, which you would prefer obscured, while still maintaining the view of the rest of the room, we can do so with our blur feature. This is just one of the ways we are able to manipulate 3D models to achieve the results required by our customers.

One of the things I really like about the current developments in photogrametry is the possibility of re-exploring traditional artistic photo and video techniques but in a 3D space that is quickly becoming insanely high resolution at low cost. This reminds me of the transition between argentic photography with films to digital when we were still scanning the films to then re-edit them with photoshop , blending traditional exposure techniques with digital effects and post-processing.
Creator of the Week: Edmund Fraser makes splats that are unlike anything we’ve seen. See how he rigs 50 cameras to stop time in 3D. Every week we’ll be highlighting someone who’s doing amazing things with Polycam. If you have a favorite scan or want to tag a Polycam creator, comment below and we’ll reach out to them!
