I was given an opportunity to do a webinar for HPAC Engineering, on whose editorial advisory board I serve, and decided to talk about the concept of Equivalent Clean Air that is central to ASHRAE Standard 241-2023 and perhaps the approach to specifying IAQ requirements that should be used in all standards.
*NOW ON DEMAND* WEBINAR: Equivalent Clean Airflow and Air Cleaners, Keys to Sustainable IAQ || Recorded 11/18, ASHRAE's William Bahnfleth explains this revolutionary concept, redefining #indoorairquality standards by replacing outdoor air via new tech. Looking forward to hearing more! I suspect this will be the gold standard in the future as getting the required amount of fresh filtered air exchanges is really expensive and potentially very energy inefficient. Engineering a tight building, having the right amount of fresh filtered air exchanges, and then using equivalents to do the rest seems the best way.
William Bahnfleth I watched, enjoyed it… thanks!

1wVery good! It was interesting to learn that the White House asked ASHRAE to develop a pathogen control standard that would help give people confidence that the COVID restrictions could be ended.... And then ended the restrictions before anything could be implemented, two months before the standard was published. Kudos to all the members of the committee for such a rapid development.
