Africa still has the highest number of women dying from cervical cancer. Even though this is a vaccine preventable disease. The implementation of HPV vaccination programs in Africa faces several challenges, including logistical, financial, cultural, and infrastructural barriers. 1. Low Awareness and Knowledge Both Public and Healthcare provider knowledge needs to be improved on the association of HPV and cervical cancer and HPV vaccine. 2. Cost and Funding HPV vaccines are expensive for many African countries. While organizations like Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance, provide subsidies, long-term financial sustainability remains a concern. 3. Weak Health Infrastructure Many African countries have limited cold chain and storage facilities to maintain vaccine potency. 4. Cultural and Social Barriers, religious opposition and misinformation. 5. Low School Enrollment affects the vaccination program because school attendance rate especially for girls is low. 6. Policy and Governance Issues 7. Limited Engagement with Communities. African countries trying to address some of the challenges faced by the continent gathered together through assistance of MSD to discuss way forward.

17th of November marked a significant milestone in the global fight against cervical cancer as we celebrated efforts towards its elimination. In Nigeria, the movement has taken a monumental step forward with the introduction of the human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine into our routine immunization system. Cervical cancer remains the third most common cancer and the second leading cause of cancer deaths among Nigerian women aged 15-44. In 2020 alone, the country witnessed 12,000 new cases and 8,000 tragic deaths. Protecting our young girls today leads to healthier families tomorrow and ultimately improves maternal, newborn, and child health across Nigeria. As we look to the future, we are committed to ensuring these life-saving interventions are accessible to all. Advocating for women’s health in Nigeria involves continuous education and raising awareness about the HPV vaccine, encouraging early screening, and engaging communities and health partners to prioritize these initiatives. Let’s unite in spreading awareness and securing a cancer-free future for our girls and women. Together, we can and will eliminate cervical cancer. 💪🏽💙 #CervicalCancerElimination #HPVVaccine #HealthForAll #MaternalHealth #ChildHealth #Nigeria #GlobalHealthPartners #SaveLives

The SMOH-CES collabrated with African Youth Task Force in carrying awareness in the three facilities of kator, nyakorun and Gurei PHCC. 300 mostly women were reached with HBV key messages. The needs for the HB vaccine is high; the participants understood the danger of HBV and are asking for vaccine, when will MOH procure the vaccine and make it available to all people. Conclusion The lives of South Sudanese remain under threats from HBV as almost 95% does not have knowledge of HBV, 98% does not know their status. Meanwhile more resources had been allocated to routine Immunization, malaria and HIV/AIDs intervention. HBV still contributes highly to morbidity and Mortality across the country…………
