✨ Staff Appreciation ✨ Our ever-so-helpful team member in the spotlight this week is Assistant Programme Coordinator Sibong'ile Mugundhulwa who is always ready to give her time to a co-worker in need. 💼 Professional Journey I was inspired to pursue a career in Development Studies due to my passion for community development and youth empowerment. My journey has been fulfilling, marked by numerous learning experiences and growth opportunities. One memorable moment at Restless Development Zambia was volunteering on the Ishiwi project to create platforms for young people to hold leaders accountable for issues affecting them and participate in democratic processes such as voting and attending community meetings. This experience significantly impacted my professional growth by creating valuable lessons in my advocacy, social accountability and governance work experiences, shaping my aspirations to take up the assistant Coordinator position that allowed me to develop critical thinking, leadership, networking and advocacy skills. 🤳🏾Hobbies Corner Outside of work, I enjoy fashion design, listening to music, content creation and cooking. These activities spark my creativity and help me relax. 💪 Achievement Adventures I am most proud of being able to work with different youth-led and youth-focused organisations to advocate and influence state actors to address issues affecting young people and include youth voices in decision-making. This experience taught me the valuable lessons of Collaboration, perseverance and teamwork. 😆 Office Quirks A memorable moment that always brings a smile to my face is the interactive moments during our lunch breaks, where we discuss different social topics that sometimes lead to incredible laughter and sometimes unending debates. It captures the unique and fun culture of our workplace. 🐏 Fun Facts An interesting fact about me that might surprise my colleagues is that I love watching investigative crime and geographical documentaries in my free time. #StaffAppreciationPost #RestlessDevelopment #YouthPower

By May 2025, we will have about 70 employees across all our businesses in Sabi Holdings. With this growth comes new changes in the lifestyle of our talents, as some get married and begin to have babies. We understand what this life changes will mean for our talents, which is why we are preparing ahead. We recently announced our plans to set up a mini workplace crèche for our employees who are young working parents. So they can now have a place to tend for their babies at work while building their careers without any interruption. As our employees grow, married, and give birth, we want to be there to support them to ease their burden. Yesterday, we were hosted by the CEO of The Baby Lounge - who runs one of Nigeria's leading corporate crèche outsourcing services. She was super-excited when she heard what we are already putting in place for our young talents. So she invited us over to compare notes. I spent the day with my Head of Admin touring their facility to learn, ask tons of questions, and take notes. We are grateful to her for choosing to guide us. At Sabi Writers, we are building one of the best places to work for young creatives in Africa. Which is why we are committed to fostering a conducive and inclusive workplace for all our talents. Let's keep building.

This week Thomas Staub and Eliane Burri from PHZH have been working closely with our team and the street children at our Resource Centre in Accra. The children engaged in hands-on activities, using a variety of materials to create unique projects. This enjoyable experience provided them with a meaningful escape from their daily struggles while helping them develop valuable new skills. Meanwhile, our staff participated in interactive online workshops focused on real-life challenges faced by street children. They worked together to create different scenarios and brainstorm new solutions. Social workers received training in setting up Maker Spaces and supporting children within these learning environments. They gained firsthand experience in tackling open-ended questions, collaborating to develop innovative ideas, and strengthening their ability to persuade others that their solutions best serve the intended purpose. Our management team used the “Design Sprint” method to generate ideas for upcoming projects, focusing on finding efficient solutions in a collaborative setting. With the support of the PHZH team, we also expanded our Learning Platform, developing content on topics like “Rights and Duties as a Trainee,” “My Professional Identity as an Apprentice,” “How to Establish a Business in the Future,” and a “Training Program for Staff Leading Children in the Maker Space.” On Monday, Thomas and Eliane will join our colleagues at the Tamale Branch in northern Ghana. The goal of this trip is to equip the Tamale team with the same skills, empowering them to strengthen children and youth in these skills so that they can confidently pursue careers and thrive in their communities in the future. #EducationForAll #HandsOnLearning #ChildDevelopment #Teamwork

My Transition Checklist: What I Got Right & Where I Could Have Done Better With 18 months until my planned departure from RTD, I needed to start preparing. As I planned my departure from RTD 18 months out, I focused on: - Student well-being: Ensuring that Shane and the students had everything they needed to thrive, which they have done, with spectacular results. - Documentation: I meticulously documented processes and resources that were previously "all in my head." This was crucial for to ensure continuity of care. - Next steps: I researched new opportunities and laid the groundwork for my next chapter. - Goodbyes: I wanted to leave in a way that would allow me to maintain a strong relationship with individuals and the organisation. While I achieved most of my goals, I haven't been back to Ghana as much as I'd like. I miss the energy and the people there. Old Akrade really does feel like a home for me. I’m in the early stages of planning a trip back to Ghana, as part of continuing to develop REHAB RETREATS LIMITED, and if anyone in my network wants to join me let me know. As Grant Downie OBE Downie once said about a visit to Ghana “we are coming here to learn” and you can too, as well as reconnecting and experiencing all that Ghana has to offer.

Inclusive education is a critical component of the educational landscape in Papua New Guinea (PNG) and the broader Pacific region. It ensures that all children, regardless of their background, abilities, or disabilities, have the opportunity to learn together in a supportive environment. Here are several key points highlighting the importance of inclusive education in primary schools in PNG and the Pacific: 1. Equity and Access Inclusive education promotes equity by ensuring that all children have access to quality education. In PNG and the Pacific, where resources can be limited, an inclusive approach helps to level the playing field for marginalized groups, including those with disabilities, children from remote areas, and those belonging to ethnic minorities. 2. Social Cohesion By promoting diverse classrooms where children with different backgrounds learn together, inclusive education fosters understanding, respect, and collaboration among students. This social cohesion is vital in societies with diverse cultures and languages, contributing to community harmony and reducing potential tensions. 3. Holistic Development Inclusive education supports the holistic development of all children, encouraging not just academic growth but also social, emotional, and physical development. Children learn empathy, teamwork, and communication skills as they interact with peers of various abilities. 4. Preparation for Life Inclusive education prepares children for a diverse world by exposing them to differences from an early age. This helps to break down stereotypes and fosters a more inclusive society where all individuals feel valued and are able to contribute. 5. Quality Education for All Research shows that when schools adopt inclusive practices, the overall quality of education improves. Teachers adapt their methods to meet the needs of all learners, which can enhance teaching strategies and benefit everyone in the classroom. #InclusiveEducation #EquityInEducation #PacificEducation #EmpowerChildren

Supporting Special Needs Children in Malaysia: A Path Towards Inclusion and Empowerment. In Malaysia today, there is growing recognition of the importance of inclusion and equal opportunities for children with special needs. While much progress has been made, many challenges remain. As we navigate these hurdles, it’s crucial to understand the diverse needs of these children and the collective responsibility we have as a society to support their development. Key Points to Reflect On: Educational Advancements: Malaysia has made strides in integrating children with special needs into mainstream schools, offering tailored support through special education programs. However, more specialized resources, trained educators, and inclusive curriculums are still needed to ensure every child receives a quality education. Support Systems: Numerous NGOs, community groups, and government initiatives are working tirelessly to support children with special needs. From providing therapy and counseling services to assisting families with caregiving, these efforts are vital to improving the quality of life for these children. Employment & Independence: Empowering children with special needs to become self-sufficient adults is a long-term goal. Programs that focus on vocational training and independent living skills can significantly impact their future prospects. These programs need more backing to bridge the gap between school and the workplace. Raising Awareness: While awareness is growing, stigma and misconceptions about disabilities remain. It is crucial for all of us to advocate for understanding and inclusivity in our communities and workplaces. Why This Matters: Supporting special needs children today is not just about education; it’s about nurturing potential, embracing diversity, and shaping a future where every child has the opportunity to thrive. Whether it’s by volunteering, donating, or simply learning more about the challenges these children face, we all have a role in making Malaysia a more inclusive society. Let’s continue to advocate for policies, programs, and initiatives that create an equal and supportive environment for children with special needs in Malaysia. #Inclusion #SpecialNeeds #Malaysia #EqualOpportunities #Empowerment #Support
