What is Conversational Intelligence, and why is it underrated? When we talk about intelligence at work, we usually focus on IQ or emotional intelligence. But there’s another form of intelligence that is just as crucial, especially for managers: Conversational Intelligence. 🧠💬 Whether you’re leading a team, working across functions, or managing relationships with different stakeholders, how you handle conversations can make or break your success. Yet, this skill is often underrated—and underdeveloped. Here’s why Conversational Intelligence should be on your radar, especially if you work with cross-functional teams: ⬆ It builds trust: Conversations are the foundation of relationships. High-quality conversations lead to higher levels of trust, which is essential for team collaboration. 🤝 ⬇ It reduces misunderstandings: Poor communication leads to misalignment and mistakes. Strong conversational skills ensure clarity and help teams stay on the same page. 🧩 ↕ It fosters innovation: The best ideas come from open, exploratory conversations. When managers use conversational intelligence, they create an environment where creativity thrives. 💡 🔄 It improves decision-making: Great conversations lead to better decisions. When everyone feels heard, the group is more likely to arrive at well-rounded solutions. 🧠 🔃 It resolves conflict: Healthy conversations are the key to resolving disagreements and ensuring everyone feels understood and respected. 🛠️ As Judith E. Glaser, author of Conversational Intelligence, said: “To get to the next level of greatness depends on the quality of our culture, which depends on the quality of our relationships, which depends on the quality of our conversations.” Watch this space daily for more nuances on conversational intelligence! "The single biggest problem in communication is the illusion that it has taken place." – George Bernard Shaw It's unbelievable, but true, how almost 80 percent of all issues have their origins in a communication gap. Be it family issues, client and service provider disconnects, broken team dynamics, inter government or even cross border conflicts. Sometimes, we struggle to explain our own perspective. Other times, we fail to understand the perspective of others. And often, it’s a mix of both. Given how foundational communication is, it's surprising to see how little focus formal education or even corporates place on strengthening communication across wider teams. And with AI, the challenge is getting worse. While everyone can ask ChatGPT or similar tools for a write-up or email on any topic, the reliance on AI can sometimes strip away the nuances of human intent, emotion, and understanding. Effective communication isn't just about the words we use—it's about context, empathy, and connection. If we don't actively invest in these skills, we risk losing the ability to truly understand and collaborate. #musings #communication

Are we losing our ability to make eye contact?? He makes a great point. While eye contact has been a source of anxiety for everybody at some point, losing this ability completely could be a real problem. Eye contact and other non-verbal communication impacts: * How you connect with others * Public speaking and presentations * Your confidence and authority * Building rapport and relationships The effects of COVID and modern digitization have impacted these skills in a huge way. We've seen how improving them is a competitive advantage for people, resulting in promotions, better team culture, and increased collaboration. #future #denver #milehighcity #tech #ai #humanresources *credit to John Mayer
