Statistically 1 in 5 children in these United States experience hunger daily and do not know where their next meal will come from. As we journey toward Fall and the major Holiday Seasons of Thanksgiving and Christmas, we need your help to keep our shelves overflowing with food and our freezers & refrigerators filled month to month. There are families, children, you may never meet hoping that you will assist us in helping them through this coming holiday season. When the Leaders were out and about, the curious crowds gathered and were hungry. The Leaders thought it was a good to just send the crowds away to find food they couldn’t afford. Each Fall, I embark on my "Fundraising Frenzy" to support a local organization, matching donations along the way. This year, I am dedicated to Camella's Cupboard Food Pantry for Children, a local organization that focuses on providing Food for Kids. E̲v̲e̲r̲y̲ ̲s̲t̲o̲r̲y̲ ̲i̲s̲ ̲u̲n̲i̲q̲u̲e̲,̲ ̲a̲n̲d̲ ̲f̲o̲r̲ ̲k̲i̲d̲s̲ ̲f̲a̲c̲i̲n̲g̲ ̲f̲o̲o̲d̲ ̲i̲n̲s̲e̲c̲u̲r̲i̲t̲i̲e̲s̲,̲ 𝗜𝘁'𝘀 𝗡𝗼𝘁 𝗧𝗵𝗲𝗶𝗿 𝗙𝗮𝘂𝗹𝘁. Camella's Cupboard Food Pantry for Children is a remarkable local initiative, sending over 500 families in the area 60 lbs of fresh food, necessities, and more each week. The need is clear - kids are going hungry. Shockingly, 1 in 6 kids in CT experience food insecurity, but since 2018, Camella's Cupboard has been making a difference. It's all about the kids. Food donations are lowest in summer months, just when families need additional food to feed children who are home on summer break. Without the schools’ free or reduced-cost breakfasts and lunches, our families struggle more in summer months to provide full, nutritious meals for their children. Last month, we were short over 1,000 items for our June distribution. As we prepare for July and August distributions, we anticipate even larger collection shortages. While our donations are at their lowest, the need in our community is at its highest. Currently, over 2,500 individuals (663 families) in Chapel Hill and Carrboro rely on our monthly Food for Families distributions, including 1,450 children. Can you help us fill the gap in donations with a financial gift? 30 can help us bridge the gap for 2 families. $60 will ensure full bags for 4 families. $100 means 7 families will receive all food categories for every summer food distribution.
