Exploring the Creative Process in Visual Art Have you ever wondered how visual artists convey their ideas, transforming them into media such as painting, sculpture, or video performance? Do artists begin their work with a clear vision of the outcome, or is the process more fluid and unpredictable? As an artist, I have experienced a variety of creative journeys, each unique in its approach and outcome. The Artistic Journey Artists have diverse methods of creation. Sometimes, I feel an overwhelming urge to create, prompting me to gather my art supplies and begin working. These spontaneous pieces often lean towards abstraction, emphasising the process rather than the result. Typically, I find about fifty percent of these works satisfactory, while the remainder appear underdeveloped and messy. Another approach involves sketching initial designs and forms, which I then refine into smaller, detailed drawings before translating them into paintings. My most common technique, however, is to "walk and think". During these walks, I visualise the artwork in my mind, manipulating shapes, compositions, and colours. Once the mental image feels complete, I recreate it in my chosen medium. The painting and art cannot be overstated. In a world that is increasingly dominated by technology and digital media, it's easy to forget the value of traditional art forms like painting. But I'm here to tell you that painting and art are more important now than ever. First and foremost, painting and art have the power to evoke emotions. They have the ability to bring people together, to create a sense of community and connection. When we experience art, we are transported to a different time and place, and we are able to connect with others on a deeper level. Painting and art also have the power to inspire creativity and imagination. They encourage us to think outside the box, to experiment, and to push boundaries. By creating something beautiful or thought-provoking, artists inspire others to do the same. Art has also played a significant role in shaping our understanding of the world. From the Renaissance masters to contemporary artists, paintings have helped us to see the world in new ways, to challenge our assumptions, and to learn about different cultures and histories. In addition, painting and art have been used throughout history as a means of social commentary. Artists have used their work to speak out against injustice, to raise awareness about important issues, and to bring attention to marginalized communities. Furthermore, painting and art have also been used as a form of therapy. They have been used to help people cope with trauma, to process difficult emotions, and to find healing. In conclusion, painting and art are more important than ever. They have the power to evoke emotions, inspire creativity, shape our understanding of the world, be used as a means of social commentary, and provide therapy. Could painting somehow teach us how to live? Abstract art does exactly that. It teaches the most crucial lessons in life, not only about vivid colours or unusual forms. It helps us to embrace imperfections since beauty results from the pure, unspoiled spirit of creation rather than from conformity or predictability. An abstract picture roots every stroke in the present. You can't overthink or try to control it. All you need is the flow of energy, the way the colours interact, and the courage to let the process happen on its own. Abstract art demonstrates the ability to detach, relinquishing the need for acceptance or rigid notions of beauty. It's challenging to explain abstract art. It's not trying to be understood or liked; it just is. But the truth of it speaks to us on a deeper level, telling us that life and art don't have to be perfect to be meaningful. I follow these rules when I make abstract art. I give up trying to control the process, let go of my expectations, and let the flaws lead me. What about the 'art' in art therapy? Traditional art materials like painting, drawing and clay are wonderful ways for self-expression, though for some people they may induce hesitancy and nervousness. In an art therapy session the benefits of creativity can still be accessed without ever needing to pick up a paintbrush (though I highly recommend it!). Postcards, photos, image cards, fabric, figures, found or natural objects, collage, writing, words, or poems are all powerful ways to access deeper understanding into feelings, emotions, sensations, experiences and relationships. Insightful and important discoveries still emerge to be shared, understood and integrated – and creative confidence can grow! Hope everyone is enjoying AI . AI discourages many artists to paint, thinking "whats the point wasting time while people can achieve same results by typing few lines". Companies have already silently started replacing people with AI. Then i remember, i never posted looking for likes or gain anything. I love painting and sharing it with people who genuinely love art. Maybe there is no point, but after finishing an art, the peace of mind I receive, is priceless. I look for that piece of happiness.
