Finland and Sweden bring a fighter force roughly the size of the UK's to the NATO alliance. Finland flies F/A-18 Hornets and has order a large number of F-35 stealth fighters. Their forces and bases would complicate any Russian effort to conquer the Baltic states in NATO. Russia's decision to invade Ukraine has had an unintended consequence: a boost to NATO airpower. Fearful of being Russia's next target, Finland joined NATO in 2023, followed by Sweden this March. This means the alliance will be augmented by their advanced aircraft and strategically located airbases. "Finland and Sweden increase NATO's high-end airpower capacity," wrote RAND. Corp researchers Paul Cormarie and John Hoehn in a recent essay for the Modern War Institute at West Point. In terms of numbers of aircraft, the new Nordic members would bring a considerable addition to NATO airpower in a conflict with Russia. Sweden currently has about a hundred Gripen jet fighters, while Finland has 62 American-made F/A-18 Hornets. That makes the combined Finnish/Swedish fighter contingent roughly equal to the combat jets of the UK's Royal Air Force and about is only one-third less than the roughly 200 fighter jets apiece flown by France and Germany.

"The MK base will soon have a squadron of Romanian F-16s - recently bought from Norway - as well as MQ-9 Reaper drones, and a military city through which Nato army, air force and naval personnel from 32 countries will rotate. The latest arrivals are the Finns. Just 20km (12 miles) from the Black Sea coast, the base is 300km from Odesa, as the fighter flies, and 400km from Sevastopol in Russian-occupied Crimea." - BBC News The Nexus LCM team proudly manages the U.S. Army 21st Theater Sustainment Command’s new JEDI Movement Center Europe - a key player in orchestrating logistics across the continent. 🇺🇸 🇰🇷🇰🇵 The situation on the Korean Peninsula remains tense due to ongoing military exercises and other military activity in the region. ▪️ Last week, bilateral air exercises between the US and the Republic of Korea began at the South Korean Kunming Air Base. About 100 aircraft will be involved, including F-35A, F-35B, F-16, and others. The exercise, which will also include U.S. Army and Marine personnel, will focus on joint maneuvers with advanced fighter jets and enhancing precision strike capabilities. Such training takes place annually, and therefore, they are not a response to any recent actions by the DPRK. ▪️ Without going far from North Korea - the media, citing satellite images of the Sohae test site, report that the military is actively preparing to launch a second reconnaissance satellite. In the US and South Korea, it is believed that the launch could be carried out as early as this week. ▪️ The first satellite was launched in November 2023, which led to even greater tensions between the DPRK and the Republic of Korea. It was then that the South Koreans canceled part of the agreement, one of the provisions of which was the renunciation of intelligence activities on the border. North Korea responded by terminating the agreement completely. Information about a launch this week, of course, may not be confirmed. However, sooner or later, the DPRK will launch another satellite into orbit to monitor potential adversaries. The North Korean leader plans to launch three spacecraft this year. 🔻It can be argued that this event, as well as the reaction to it from Seoul and Washington, will further undermine the situation on the Korean Peninsula. This means that permanent tension in the region will continue. #USA #Republic of Korea #DPRK

Russia's FAB-3000 Glide Bomb has shifted from being dubbed the 'Big Joke' to becoming a 'Big Headache' for the Ukrainian Military and NATO. The Russian Ministry of Defence confirmed the commencement of mass production of the three-tonne FAB-3000 high-explosive aviation bombs. Despite initial skepticism, these bombs are now a reality. The bombs are set to be used with UMPC glide kits, despite concerns about accuracy due to their heavy weight and high speed. The FAB-3000's efficiency has been questioned, with comparisons made to the FAB-500, highlighting the significant difference in warhead size between the two. Russia has deployed Su-34 Fullback aircraft to launch these powerful bombs, claiming that Western air defense systems are defenseless against them. Recent footage shows the FAB-3000 bomb being successfully dropped on a target within Ukrainian territory, showcasing its formidable capabilities. This development marks a significant advancement in the Russian Air Force's arsenal, with the FAB-3000 emerging as one of the most potent weapons in their inventory. #UkraineWar #Adanidefence #Edge #Thales #ADMS #Adani #MIL #Mannesmann

🇩🇪🇯🇵 Japan, Germany may hold 1st joint land force exercise next year The German Army is expected to join an exercise with Japan's Ground Self-Defense Force as early as next year, according to German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius, against a backdrop of China's military buildup in the Indo-Pacific region and territorial claims in the South China Sea. Pistorius revealed that the upcoming joint exercise, set to take place in Japan, will be the first of its kind between the two countries' ground forces. The development comes as Germany has bolstered ties with Indo-Pacific partners and emphasized its mission to "maintain the rules-based international order." The two countries' maritime and air forces have already conducted joint exercises, and Germany is committed to deploying a frigate, a supply ship and aircraft in the Indo-Pacific region this year. The German frigate is expected to make a port call in Japan in August, with the European country's fighter jets planned to join a drill with Japan's Air Self-Defense Force in July. #Germany #Japan

#Iran - Iran's Revolutionary Guards commander says Iran purchased Russian-made Sukhoi 35 fighter jets - from Reuters News Agency: Iran has purchased Russian-made Sukhoi-35 fighter jets, a senior Revolutionary Guards commander said on Monday, amid Western concerns about Tehran and Moscow's growing military cooperation. This is the first time an Iranian official has confirmed the purchase of Su-35 jets. However, Ali Shadmani, who was quoted by the Student News Network, did not clarify how many jets were purchased and whether they had already been delivered to Iran. "Whenever necessary, we make military purchases to strengthen our air, land, and naval forces. ... The production of military equipment has also accelerated," the deputy Coordinator of the Khatam-ol-Anbia Central Headquarters said. "If the enemy acts foolishly, it will taste the bitter taste of being hit by our missiles, and none of its interests in the occupied territories will remain safe," Shadmani warned referring to Iran's arch-rival in the region, Israel. In November 2023, Iran's Tasnim news agency said Tehran had finalised arrangements to buy Russian fighter jets. Earlier this month, Iran and Russia signed a comprehensive strategic partnership which did not mention arms transfers but said the two will develop their "military-technical cooperation." Iran's air force has only a few dozen strike aircraft, including Russian jets as well as ageing U.S. models acquired before the 1979 Islamic Revolution. https://lnkd.in/eW84cS7f

This photo showcases one of the two MiG-25RUs operated by the Indian Air Force (IAF). The MiG-25RU served as a two-seat conversion trainer for the MiG-25RBK, the premier reconnaissance variant of the Foxbat1. The IAF's fleet consisted of a total of eight MiG-25s, including six RBKs and two RUs, all of which were retired in May 2006. The MiG-25, known by its NATO reporting name "Foxbat," was a supersonic interceptor and reconnaissance aircraft designed by the Soviet Union's Mikoyan-Gurevich bureau. It was among the fastest military aircraft to enter service, capable of reaching speeds up to Mach 2.83. The RU variant, as seen in this image, played a crucial role in training pilots for the complex high-speed, high-altitude missions performed by the MiG-25 fleet. #military #defense #defence #aerospace #aviation #aircraft #aircrafts #airplane #airplanes #aviationlovers #militaryaviation #militaryaircraft #fighterjet #engineering #technology #militarytechnology #defensetechnology #defenseinnovation #defenseindustry #airforce #pilots

The MiG-29, or Fulcrum, as it is known in NATO, is a supersonic Soviet/Russian fighter aircraft. It was developed in the Soviet Union between 1970 and 1980 by the Mikoyan-Gurevitch MiG design bureau. The first flight took place on 6 October 1977. The MiG-29 entered service in July 1983. A huge commercial success, particularly in the countries that were part of the Communist bloc at the time, over 1,700 examples were produced (including over 500 in Russia, formerly the USSR, alone). Several versions of this fighter exist and vary according to the demands of the purchaser states. It is currently still in service with various air forces and should not leave the skies before 2035 (including MiG-29 and upgraded versions).
