All the brands a designer thinks of would come true, it’s funny that how many passion projects you work on but they all are in your mind and nothing really exists, Having said that, I created branding for a brand called “All hers Apartments”, a real estate brand that provides spaces to the women only. Your best client? 🚀 You. Treat yourself as a brand. And you’ll get the best out of you. 2010 I left graphic design after 14 years and became a kid again. I started drawing. I began selling prints of London. No one else was doing city centric prints. They started selling…quickly. I worked 75 hour weeks illustrating, hand printing and doing shows and events at the weekend. I was working fast. I knew I had something that would be copied, and I put my foot down. The prints sold world wide, sell out editions. I did not let up for one minute. 💥 This got my name out there. Brand recognition. Then I got my first mural commission. No one was doing murals back then. Suddenly this became THE art I wanted to pursue. ❓ How? ❓ How would I get myself seen. ❓ In a gallery? ❓ No. Too much competition. 2014, I took a chance. I contacted an interior and architecture design show, Design Junction. I offered to paint a wall if they had one available, for free at the show. It cost around £20k to exhibit. I assumed a no. But they said yes. For the theatre. No one was doing murals. 🚀There were potential clients watching. Interior designers, architects, hoteliers, brands. 🚀 I did 5 days there, long days, but that one gig, I won 8 projects. I had no competition. The only artist. 🚀 I did murals in LA, London, Manchester from that 5 day give up. 💥💥 And more importantly - I got known for hand inked storytelling murals. Brand awareness. I did Design Junction, for free, for the next 4 years. Every time winning new clients. And my name got bigger. I was putting my foot to the accelerator. I was busy. I knew I would get copied eventually. In 10 years I have never advertised or cold called. I have never pitched nor presented to a possible client. I have been seen, recommended and asked directly. I have worked on some of the most amazing projects through not only who I am, what I do, but also how reliable and quickly I do it. 🚀 Reputation is everything. I have been asked to work on projects. 90% of the time, fees are unrealistic. Clients don’t see the gains, just the outgoings. Their point of view is right now. Not in 6 months, a year or two. So they get someone ‘like’ me. A cheap ‘artist’ to do a bosh job, then wonder why their credibility and success is pants. No investment There is so much poor work out there. Copies. Cheap and nasty. With no thought process. No passion. It’s sugar, a quick hit but no benefits. You want a Ferrari, but buy a Civic and stick a spoiler on it and believe it’s the same. It’s not. We all know. At Rare Design London we are always challenging ourselves with the question “but will it create impact?” Impact occurs (or doesn’t) at every every level of the end-user experience: visually, emotionally, even - dare I say it - spiritually. And here is a good example of a brand - one of the oldest - that created impact at every level. A unique object in its category. Distinctive because of its archaic visual identity. Oozing (literally) with meaning of some sort, unanswered questions that warrant investigation and get us thinking. So whilst this new treatment shows a lion, sure, its bland clip-art/stock vector execution will barely register. No meaning or enquiry here. No mystery. As the author says, no weirdness. No impact. Perhaps if the brand owners and designers had invited a contemporary artist to skillfully rework the iconic image - channelling its spooky narrative through a fresh interpretation. Combining heritage with digital. Actually investing in the story. Maybe this would be a more interesting point in the brand’s history. Sadly not.

Working on the brand project for "Nexit Construction Limited" was a dynamic experience. Here's a concise overview of the process: *Initial Consultation: I had an in-depth consultation with the stakeholders to understand their vision and core values. They wanted the branding to convey reliability, innovation, and strength. *Market Research: I conducted thorough market research to analyze competitors and identify industry trends, with the aim of creating a standout brand identity. *Concept Development: Based on the consultation and research, I brainstormed and sketched concepts, focusing on themes such as structural elements (buildings, cranes, tools), abstract designs symbolizing growth and stability, and bold typography of the Letter "N". * Digital Drafts: I created digital drafts with different color palettes, fonts, and layouts. The actual colour they chose to work with was Red signifying "Prowess/power". *Finalizing the Brand Identity: We finalized a design featuring a stylized building silhouette integrated with the company name, using strong lines and a modern font. The color scheme of Red and Black effectively captured the company’s values. *Brand Application: I provided various file formats and a brand guideline document to ensure consistent application across all materials. * Outcome: The "Nexit Construction Limited" team was delighted with the final brand identity, which enhanced their market presence and attracted more clients. * Reflection: This project highlighted the importance of thorough research, client collaboration, and iterative design in creating a cohesive brand identity. #inksdesignz #simeondacreative #inksdigitalspace

Brands take time to create. Each tiny pixel of detail, choice in color, curve of typography, and detail in messaging are scrutinized and obsessed over. As designers, watching a sketch become a physical, tangible business brand is an awesome, exhausting, and empowering experience- one that I will never take for granted.
