Spanish and Mandarin Chinese are the most spoken languages in the U.S. after English. Having a bilingual team can help close communication gaps and promote business growth. We know learning a new language can be difficult, especially if you don’t establish clear learning goals. Setting clear and achievable goals is essential to fully integrate language learning within your company for these reasons: 🌟Know Your Purpose: Why should your team want to learn a new language? Do you want to advance your employees' career opportunities as global professionals? Are you looking to reflect your market and audience? 🌟Finding the Right Language Program: Clear goals enable more effective communication with partners, ensuring they understand your needs and can provide relevant information and proposals. They also ensure that any implemented programs align with your company’s strategic objectives and facilitate the development of productive, long-term partnerships. This alignment and clear communication lead to better collaboration and mutual benefits. 🌟 Track Progress: Setting goals with time constraints allows one to track progress over time. For example, they help measure how far you’ve come in your language proficiency, which can be incredibly rewarding and encouraging. In addition, it prompts you to evaluate your learning strategies, making the necessary changes to improve your efficiency and effectiveness in learning the language. 🌟 Accountability: Learning a new language can be intimidating. When you set goals collaboratively, your team is more likely to hold each other accountable. Setting specific goals with deadlines create a greater sense of commitment and participation from staff to have a successful initiative. 📌 Diáfano has flexible language programs and offerings to suit your established goals. For example, we can create ASL classes for front-line staff to improve visitor experience or support the hiring of bilingual candidates through language proficiency testing. Let's get started! #Diáfano #LanguageLearning #CompanySuccess #Purpose #Accountability #Progress #Journey

➡ 96% of firms believe English language training helps retain staff. ➡ A lack of language skills restricts access to professional development and holds back career progression. ➡ The need for language training continues to grow: Almost a third of employees are non-native speakers of their organization’s main language, while 74% of companies who provide language training plan to increase their investment this year. ➡ Around three-quarters of employees with low English proficiency face limited participation and fewer promotion opportunities in their company compared to those with high English proficiency. These are the key findings from Hult EF Corporate Education's recent survey (worth a full read): Driving talent retention and development through language learning If you're not looking after your international employees you are failing them. Plus, you're missing out on hearing from about 75% of them. Communicating effectively and comfortably in English, rightly or wrongly, opens up many doors. And if I give my initial thoughts - language acquisition is just one part of it. How people FEEL when they speak a second language is hugely important part of how they are able to communicate. This shift in perception doesn't just come from placing the burden on second-language speakers, do you have sufficient support in place for your managers who have international teams? Do they know how to create psychological safety, do they know how to nurture a culture of confidence within their teams? If you want to have a conversation on how to build confidence in your second language speakers and build capability in your managers and leaders of international teams, I'd love to speak to you. People deserve better. #InternationalTeams #EnglishLanguage #TalentRetention #LearningAndDevelopment

Why is language learning an L&D priority? Language training is crucial in facilitating communication and is also a vital component of personal identity. While words themselves can be translated, the social and cultural nuances that are intertwined with spoken language can create a communication barrier between employees from different backgrounds. These same issues can also impact relationships between employees and customers from different cultural backgrounds. As businesses expand and become more diverse, it is essential to ensure that every employee can relate to their colleagues and customers. It is crucial that they can collaborate effectively to support business growth and development. Language training is a powerful tool that can support non-fluent employees to succeed at work, facilitate effective collaboration within multilingual teams, and help employees develop professional and personal networks in different regions of the world. Head to ConversEng or pop me a mail Tayla@converseng.com, if you want to learn more about how we can plug into your current L&D programs. #businesscommunication #learninganddevelopment #collaboration #professionaldevelopment #communicationcollaboration #corporatecommunication #staffdevelopment #businessenglish #rosettastone #IXLLearning #languageprofiency Frans Reuvers Raks Singh
