Accountability and Growth: Reflections from Last Week
As leaders, we are not only responsible for holding our teams accountable but are equally accountable to them. This means seeking regular feedback, understanding their perspectives, addressing challenges, and creating systems that drive organizational success while supporting our teams in their roles.
Last week, we had the pleasure of hosting our Global Office HR colleague, Astrid van der Looij, who visited at the invitation of our HR Manager.
Her time with us was invaluable, as it brought both reflection and progress.
The week was filled with meaningful engagements, including:
✅ Meetings with management and the broader team.
✅ A special one-on-one session with our female staff, during which they shared a thoughtful memo for consideration.
✅ Reviews of salaries, comparing them with similar organizations to ensure fairness and competitiveness.
✅ Assessing job descriptions to confirm alignment with current roles and responsibilities.
✅ Evaluating staff appraisal tools and exploring staff development initiatives to keep our teams motivated and prepared for the future.
Learning is continuous, and last week was a testament to that. As a team leader, I am committed to addressing the issues raised during these sessions because it’s not only the right thing to do but also essential for our collective success. The incredible work and sacrifices of our team have made us the organization we are today. It is our responsibility to prioritize their well-being and growth.
We concluded the week with a symbolic dinner by the River Nile. The location was significant—no one drinks from the Nile and doesn’t return to South Sudan!
This moment underscored our journey forward, including preparing our team for Cordaid 2025 and the exciting future ahead.
Thank you, Astrid van der Looij, for your unwavering support and commitment to our growth. Your insights and care have made a profound impact.
We are grateful and look forward to welcoming you back soon.
Together, we continue to build a better organization and a brighter future.
