GreenSquareAccord has announced receiving 254 nominations for their Gold Star Awards, describing this as an impressive 42% increase over last year’s entries. However, this claim seems somewhat underwhelming, especially considering their workforce size and the upcoming expenditure for the awards ceremony.
To put this in perspective, with an employee base ranging between 1,000 and 5,000, the 254 nominations represent only about 5.08% to 25.4% of their total staff. Last year’s nominations, calculated to be around 179, indicate a low participation rate.
Moreover, it is important to note that these nominations are solely from staff members, with no input from customers or residents. This exclusion is disheartening, particularly considering the crucial role that customers and residents play in the organisation’s operations. Their feedback and recognition would provide a more comprehensive and authentic measure of performance and service quality.
When considering the costs associated with organising and hosting an awards ceremony, including logistics, venue, awards, and lost productivity, one must question the efficiency and impact of this exercise. The expenditure seems extravagant and not necessarily reflective of broad recognition across the organisation.
Given these figures and the lack of customer/resident involvement, it's crucial to consider whether the awards genuinely enhance morale and recognition or if they simply serve as a costly tradition with limited reach. In light of these numbers, the resources allocated to the Gold Star Awards might be better invested in more impactful employee and customer engagement initiatives, or better yet spent making the homes of their residents safe, warm and dry.
We’ve received 254 nominations for our Gold Star Awards, an impressive 42% increase on last year.
Our awards are an important opportunity for us to recognise and reward the colleagues and teams who go above and beyond and enable us provide a great service to our customers.
Our final ceremony will take place on Wednesday 3 July 2024. We can’t wait to crown our winners, good luck everyone!

Awards Season.......how to write a winning entry 🏆
I am very lucky to be part of judging panels for several awards events coming up over the next few months. It is a genuine honour to review talented businesses and individuals across our industry.
Having trawled through a very long list of entries last week I thought it might be useful to share my tips for how to create strong entries.
✔ Read the criteria carefully, and make sure your entry captures each of the required points.
✔ Use bullet points, short paragraphs and easy to digest content. Remember the judges have to read an awful lot, so make sure yours is easily understandable.
✔ If you are applying in multiple categories, make sure you make your entry different in each category (back to point 1) Each entry needs to be relevant to the category.
✔ Don't think you have to apply for every category you may have a chance to win in. Less entries, with better clarity and detail, will have more of a chance.
And do not give up. If you don't make the shortlist, keep trying.
Over the years I have seen plenty of entries improve year on year, your time will come!
Good luck everyone 🍀
⏱️ Don't let a lack of time or resource, let your chance of industry recognition slip away.
📋 You may have considered entering that award or maybe even started your entry, but it’s fallen down the priority list…fear not, help is at hand….
🤩 We have senior experts that can take your story and turn it into the winning entry
🏇Don’t fall at the final hurdle, picture yourself being shortlisted or winning, and feeling pride in your work, knowing that an elite panel of industry leaders has recognised your work as industry gold standard 🏆
Go on, what are you waiting for….?
The real reason industry recognition fuels our fire:
Recently, we’ve been honoured with nominations for some major awards.
Most recently, the EGR Global awards for Sports Affiliate of the Year, and SBC Latino America Sports Affiliate of The Year nominations.
And while being recognised is great, there’s something more meaningful behind it.
Here’s why these nominations matter:
🍀They honour every team member who’s poured their heart into our work
🍀They show that our bold ideas are making a real impact
🍀They boost our team’s morale, inspiring us to aim even higher
Nominations aren’t the final destination
They’re markers along the way.
They remind us that we’re moving in the right direction, innovating, and thriving in a competitive industry.
But the best part?
I saw the excitement and pride in my team’s eyes, knowing their hard work was appreciated.
So, here’s to all the nominees and those driving our industry forward. You’re all stars in my book.
What does industry recognition mean to you?

In advance of the MPI Ottawa Chapter Grand Prix awards gala night coming up this week, I have a message for all award nominees…
•
Ladies especially, please take the time this weekend to write your acceptance speech AND #rehearse it until it is nearly memorized. 🎤
•
The “I’m winning” #energy is SO important because anything else is an insult to your worthiness. (Should I say it again for the people in the back? ;-)
•
Not to be confused with arrogance, this way of being is necessary for us to step into our power from a place of acknowledging our own #value.
•
I’ve found (generally) that women are especially good at downplaying #recognition. I’m always sorry to see when people are completely agast when their name is called that the entire speech is spent in total disbelief and, sometimes, outright denial of the honor.
•
✅ YES you can & should be gracious.
•
✅ YES you can recognize others (please do!)
•
✅ AND you can own it at the same time! (Prep and bring up a note card if need be!)
•
My hope is that more women “own” the moment and take the opportunity to say something that matters in an #intentional 60-90 seconds that is authentic & honouring of YOU and your greatness.
•
Especially when we are bestowed the highest honour a podium moment, we have the responsibility to leave people better then how we found them. Do we not? ♥️🙏
•
I think these important moments take foresight, forthought, and deep self respect to utter words that can be a light for others.
•
When we step into our power, by default, we give permission for others to step into theirs. Yes or yes? 🙌🏻😉
•
Sending love, hugs, and BEST of luck to all my amazing colleagues who find themselves on the nominee list. You are all winners to me! 🎉
