🧑🏫 Join AML in Research Triangle Park on November 20-21 for its Strategic Planning for Small Towns: A Two-Day NCLM Workshop! Through this two-day NCLM facilitated workshop, you will not only learn about the benefits and best practices of strategic planning – you will actually develop a strategic plan that you can implement in your town! Designed for towns under 10,000 population, this workshop invites municipal governing boards to create a 3-to-5-year, forward-looking plan for their communities. (At least three members of a municipality must attend.) League staff will review the benefits of a strategic plan for your town and then lead you through comprehensive exercises to develop your own plan. This exercise uses a League-developed template to assist each town select major strategic focus areas, objectives, and action items for a 3-to-5-year planning period. Register here:

Reflecting on the impactful discussions at the recently concluded #AYGS has been truly inspiring. It was an honor to share the high-level panel stage, discussing the pivotal role of STI (Science, Technology, and Innovation) and STISA (Science, Technology, and Innovation Strategy for Africa) in accelerating the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA). I want to give special thanks to the HSRC (Human Sciences Research Council), Palesa Sekhejane and our amazing moderator Fatai Aremu, and my esteemed co-panelists: Honorable Mahlangu, the High Commissioner of the Republic of South Africa to Kenya, brought impressive diplomatic expertise to the table, emphasizing the importance of collaboration and innovation in fostering regional economic integration. Mmboneni Muofhe, Director General of the Department of Science and Technology South Africa, for his thought leadership, sharing strategic perspectives on how leveraging STI can drive sustainable development and enhance Africa's competitiveness in global trade. Dr. Sultani Matendechero ‘ndc’(K), Director General of the Ministry of Health Kenya, showcased insightful leadership in highlighting the intersection of health innovation and trade. He stressed the need for coordinated efforts to address healthcare challenges and think through the next pandemic while promoting trade opportunities. Michael Mandu, an International Trade Relations Expert at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Kenya, demonstrated expertise in trade policies and regulations, shedding light on the role of STI in enhancing trade facilitation and fostering economic growth. The rousing opening remarks by Sarah Mosoetsa (PhD), CEO of HSRC, set the tone for the conference, inspiring attendees to leverage their ideas and expertise to propel Africa forward. Hi community, I'll be presenting at the Visitor Studies Association's Annual Conference on July 18th in St. Paul, MN (the stolen lands of the Dakota people). The talk is titled "Redefine Visitor Studies Using Community Voice: A Creative Evaluation Story." I'll share about the Creative Evaluation & Engagement (CE&E) approach, how it works in practice, and how we integrate arts-based methods into the process. I will also briefly touch on how this work mirrors Community-Based Participatory Research (CBPR), and how CBPR pairs well with CE&E. I was supposed to give this talk with Sully Moreno, but Sully won't be able to join us IRL. Perhaps, like we did for AEA, we will offer a virtual session for those who aren't attending VSA.
