Qualified Lawyers & SQE2 exemptions. The SRA has just changed the rules and write that 'qualified lawyers cannot apply for an exemption from a part of the SQE that they have previously failed. They must retake the assessment and pass to be eligible to qualify'. They consulted on this but have now made the change. The case was settled after 2 years! In 1994, a jury awarded Liebeck $2.86 million in damages, including punitive damages. The amount was later reduced to $640,000 by the judge, and the case was eventually settled out of court for an undisclosed amount.
