How to Get into F1 Through Internships. Ever wondered how some F1 engineers get their start? Many began as interns. Internships provide invaluable hands-on experience and industry contacts crucial for a career in Formula 1. Take James Allison, for example. He started his career with a summer internship at the Benetton Formula 1 team. This opportunity allowed him to develop skills and establish connections that propelled his career forward. Even short-term internships can make a significant impact: -They provide a glimpse into the industry. -You become a more attractive candidate for full-time positions. So, what actions can you take? -Research F1 teams and their internship programs. Regularly check their websites for openings. Mercedes has an excellent internship program and tends to retain many of their interns. I know this because I worked alongside several colleagues who were former interns. -Reach out to universities affiliated with F1 teams. Oxford Brookes has a renowned Motorsport department.

Internships are really important. So they should be easy to find. Right? When I asked my friends about their Christmas plans in December. They got excited. Skiing! Disney! Mexico! But then their voices would change … "and searching for an internship". They sounded confused, defeated, and not sure where to start. Exactly how I had felt when submitting 50 online applications the past two winter breaks... and only hearing back from 1 each year. Luckily for me, this year was different. I already had an internship. It got me thinking, is there more to this process than just luck? The last four months I've sought to figure that out. And I've learned a lot. How important they are, how hard they are to get, and how to approach the process. And now, I'm ready to document my journey of Next Level Interns with you.
