The well trained cardiac MRI (CMR) technologist is an invaluable asset to any program. With proper training and experience a CMR technologist is able to tailor a scan to each patient. Cardiac patients generally present for a scan with cardiac arrhythmias, shortness of breath, and many other situations that make it impossible for a standardized protocol to fit every patient. A working knowledge of cardiac rhythms (e.g. normal sinus rhythm, atrial fibrillation, bigeminy, etc.) are essential in order to acquire a CMR study of diagnostic quality. Patients with significant shortness of breath (that may or may not be in normal sinus rhythm) can also have difficulty because the technologist needs to know how to adjust scan parameters to make the breath hold comfortable for the patient, but still be of diagnostic quality. Finally a CMR technologist also needs an understanding of cardiovascular physiology and pathology in order to tailor the scan to provide a diagnosis. This requires the technologist be familiar with the patient's history and the clinical indication to ensure the correct study is performed (CMR is still new and referring providers often order the wrong study). The Society of Cardiovascular MRI (SCMR) has published recommendations and training guidelines for technologists. The society is also working towards a certification for technologists to help ensure CMR is being performed correctly and to grow this growing field of diagnostic imaging. 📣 Excited to share our latest paper on #neardeathexperience, co-authored with amazing colleagues Anne-Françoise Rousseau, pauline fritz, Helena Cassol, Olivia Gosseries, Bernard Lambermont and Misset Benoît ! ✨ This papers presents the results of our 1-year follow-up prospective study investigating the characteristics and potential global impact of the #NDE memories recalled by #ICU survivors ❗ Importantly, from a clinical perspective, it's noteworthy that a significant proportion (71%) of our patient sample scored at least one item on the Greyson NDE scale, meaning that many of them did experience features protytpical to #NDE, but their experiences weren't "rich enough" to be classified as an NDE based on the standard scoring system. This raises the clinical importance of conducting systematic interviews with all ICU patients to explore any potential memory upon awakening 🙏 This article is the result of a wonderful collaboration between the #ICU and Clinique post-soins intensifs of the CHU de Liège and the Coma Science Group (Université de Liège, GIGA - Université de Liège). 🌟Harnessing the power of scientific collaboration to drive life-changing innovations for the CF community! 🌟 We are thrilled to announce that we’ve awarded $859,932 in our ✨first ever ✨Collaborative Research Grant to researchers at University of Iowa Roy J. and Lucille A. Carver College of Medicine, Children's Hospital of Philadelphia, University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine, and University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry to support their important work focused on improving how CF therapeutics are delivered effectively to airway cells. Led by Paul McCray, MD, Beverly Davison, PhD, and John Lueck, PhD, this groundbreaking project will use advanced AAV capsid variants to develop targeted therapies for people with #CysticFibrosis. We are incredibly proud to support this cutting-edge research that holds the potential to provide curative treatments for all people with CF, including those in the final 10% who do not benefit from current therapies. 🌟 Exciting News! 🎉 I am thrilled to share that I've accomplished a significant milestone in my academic journey - my very first publication! 📚✨ Titled "Interventions to prevent postoperative atrial fibrillation in Dutch cardiothoracic centres," this manuscript represents the culmination of hard work, dedication, and collaboration during my last three years at the University of Amsterdam. I am incredibly grateful for the opportunity to take part in this project as the first author, alongside the guidance and support of Wim-Jan van Boven, Jolanda Kluin, Sulayman el Mathari, and Joris de Groot, MD, PhD. Together, we delved into the intricate landscape of postoperative atrial fibrillation (POAF) prevention in Dutch cardiothoracic centres. What's the scoop? 📰 Our study shed light on some interesting insights: - Many Dutch cardiothoracic centres are not currently prescribing preoperative prophylaxis for POAF, despite positive recommendations. - Surprisingly, key prophylactic medications like colchicine and amiodarone are underutilized, despite robust endorsements from multiple guidelines. - There's a resounding call for uniform management protocols for POAF and clearer guidelines on anticoagulant prescription durations.
