To fellow Millennials (and beyond)... Please stop writing posts saying how you don't understand what all this crazy new Gen Z/Gen Alpha slang means. You are not so old that you don't know how to use a search engine! From no cap to rizz, skibidi to aura points, new slang continues to be created by the "young" and the not so young are fulfilling their generational obligation to complain about it and pretend like that's not how language, like, works. Into every generation a lexicon is born. One set of words in all the world. It alone will have the strength and skill to really annoy the generation who came before. You just wait until those pesky kids start heavily quoting pop culture references you know nothing about. Could they BE any more annoying? And, especially those of you in Marketing/HR who just hired 25 year old Tiffany to handle that "Tiktok stuff" and keep the company relevant, knowing full well you'll disapprove every idea she has and lay her off as soon as finances look shaky - do not dismiss an upcoming generation just because they wear socks with sandals and sound like they're quoting Scatman.

My generation is often blamed for our lack of patience. But, is it really our fault? We are the only generation in history that grew up with smartphones and social media. As a result, we've become accustomed to getting things instantly, and that has caused a significant shift in the way our minds function. The damage I’m talking about is this: We’ve experienced so much immediacy that our brains now believe that everything should happen fast. Instant gratification has become the default setting, rather than a privilege. The human brain, however, is still wired primitively. It doesn’t easily differentiate between what can be obtained with a click, like food, information, or entertainment and more complex, intangible things like success, happiness, contentment, or love. In the past, something as simple as making a phone call required patience. That consistent need for patience in everyday life conditioned the minds of previous generations to wait, to endure. But when everything today happens at lightning speed, our minds naturally adapt to that pace. Over time, we start expecting everything even things like achieving our goals and dreams to come just as quickly. #socialmedia #millennials #youth #studentsoflinkedin #patience #success

The Reel Impact on Teenagers' Real Lives By Devang Sharma In an age dominated by social media, the curated perfection of "reel life" is shaping how teenagers perceive themselves and their world. Platforms like Instagram, TikTok, and Snapchat offer a continuous stream of idealized moments, often portraying unrealistic standards of beauty, success, and happiness. As teenagers consume this content, they are increasingly comparing their everyday experiences to these filtered realities, leading to feelings of inadequacy and low self-esteem. The constant exposure to these hyper-realistic reels creates pressure to conform, making many teens feel that they must emulate these online personas to be accepted. This can result in anxiety, depression, and a distorted self-image, as they struggle to match their real lives with the glamorous, but often unattainable, portrayals seen online. Parents and educators must engage in open conversations with teens, encouraging them to differentiate between curated content and reality. Only by fostering critical thinking and self-awareness can we help teenagers navigate the challenges of growing up in a digitally-driven world. #TeenMentalHealth #SocialMediaImpact #DigitalWellbeing #MentalHealthAwareness #SocialMediaCulture #ReelLifeVsRealLife #YouthEmpowerment #SelfEsteem #ParentalGuidance #DigitalParenting #TeenageAnxiety #SocialMediaInfluence #MentalHealthMatters #CriticalThinking #YouthDevelopment

It's day 3 of #CelebratingYouth! Today we're looking at how the online world affects our young generation. Last year, in collaboration with TOOLBOX FILM APS, we conducted an audience survey among Danish 13-14-year-olds for a series exploring a 14-year-old's double life. When talking to Danish teens it's clear that they are preoccupied with how they look, what others think, and their identity in general. They feel pressured and spend a lot of time thinking about performing as a student, a child, and a person full of changes. In these tough years, 13-14-year-olds need an escape from their everyday life - and they find it online. As one of the participants said: "Sometimes it's nice to have a place where you can be someone else. Online, you can spice up who you are." Especially Snapchat is a big deal for Danish teens. Several young people told us that on social media platforms, they can be someone other than at school for example. The online space allows them to embellish themselves - by being more polite, and cooler, trying to impress, writing sweet things, and having more friends and flirts at the same time. What do you think about teenagers using online platforms to "spice up" their identity? #youth #socialmedia #onlineidentity #audienceresearch Stay tuned for more insights on our young generation!
