A rewarding day with EagleStar cadets! Just wrapped up an awesome training session with the Eaglestar onboarding familiarization class! Their curiosity about the maritime industry was infectious. Answering their questions and seeing their eagerness to learn was incredibly rewarding. It's clear they all have a passion for the sea, and that makes me excited for their futures. Their insightful questions delved into the heart of what makes a great crew: understanding onboard culture, respecting fellow crewmates, and navigating the challenges of teamwork, leadership, and stress management. By the end of the session, it was clear they had grasped the fundamentals and were eager to put their knowledge to the test. It's inspiring to witness their growth, and I have no doubt they'll make fantastic additions to the maritime field. To all the shipowners! Investing in onboard familiarization training for your cadets is an investment in their future, and ultimately, the success of your crew. Equipping them with the soft skills they need to thrive in a demanding environment is invaluable. Get your cadets onboard for success! The Rewarding Results of Creating Engagement with Your Dog Being engaging with your dog can lead to remarkable improvements in behavior and command responsiveness. Here's how focusing on engagement can make a significant difference: Increased Focus: By creating engagement, your dog will eagerly anticipate commands, showing a heightened level of focus and readiness to work. Consistent Responsiveness: With proper engagement, your dog will consistently respond to commands like "Sit" and "Heel" with enthusiasm, demonstrating an eagerness to please. Strong Eye Contact: Even when distractions are present, a well-engaged dog will maintain strong eye contact, waiting patiently for the next command. Eagerness for Rewards: Through consistent engagement, your dog will be highly motivated by rewards, always striving to perform well to earn that positive reinforcement. Your Bond and Synergy: Most of my clients have indicated that they achieved a bond with their dog that they never thought was previously possible after having focused heavily on engagement and engagement games. Training their dog became faster, saving them time and money while being able to enjoying the synergy they now both felt during training exercises. Engagement isn't just about obedience—it's about building a lasting connection with your dog. Start today and watch the transformation! #DogTraining #EngagedDog #ObedienceTraining #PetBehavior

I feel like sharing a bit of a quote today. Our success has not been a continual series of victories. We have had a number of devastating setbacks; how these are handled is the making of a great team... winning does not happen in straight lines. (Sir Clive Woodward) Why? Sometimes we can forget that our dogs have thoughts, feelings and different abilities and that we expect a lot from them all the time and to be spot on all the time. Dog training is a journey, not a destination. It's filled with both triumphs and setbacks. The key to success lies in our ability to learn from our mistakes, stay positive, and keep moving forward. Just like in any relationship, building a strong bond with your dog takes time, patience, and understanding. Remember, every small step, no matter how insignificant it may seem, is a victory. Yesterday I was working with Tex, a rescue dog that loves to throw himself at the door, we spent the session working on door protocols and desensitising any movement and use of the door. This will take time, patience and monitoring potential setbacks. What are some of the biggest challenges you've faced in training your dog? How did you overcome them? Share your experiences in the comments below. #dogtraining #dogbehavior #positivereinforcement #doglove

Relationships built on trust. 🐾🇺🇸❤️ The bond between a service dog in training and their primary trainer is undeniably strong, as the two have spent close to 18 months working together daily. This period of intensive training and bonding ensures that the dog is not only skilled in performing necessary tasks, but also trusts and understands their trainer deeply. As the service dog nears the final stages of training—Phases IV and V—preparation for their eventual placement with a new veteran becomes a priority. It is essential that this bond, developed over such a significant amount of time, be gradually transferred to the dog’s new handler. This careful transition ensures that the dog’s attachment to their trainer is not abruptly severed, which could cause confusion or anxiety for the dog. The time spent together during this phase is crucial. It provides the trainer and the veteran with the opportunity to form a new connection, allowing the veteran to effectively learn to handle the dog by building trust, and to learn how to handle and work with the dog effectively. This approach offers a healthy learning opportunity to take on the role of the primary handler, while the trainer offers support and guidance to both the dog and the new veteran. By slowly transferring the dog’s trust and bond from trainer to veteran, we ensure that the new Veteran-Service Dog Team is set up for success. The goal is for the veteran and the dog to form a partnership built on mutual trust and respect, allowing the dog to fulfill their critical role in supporting the veteran’s daily needs. This transition is not just about teaching commands, but about fostering a deep, enduring connection that will help the veteran and service dog thrive together. #trust #bond #veteran #servicedog #servicedogtrainer #dogsforourbrave #savingstwolivesatonce
