Last week, I had the incredible opportunity to attend the South Asian Apparel Leadership Forum 2024, organized by the brilliant Linda Speldewinde and AOD at Cinnamon Life at City of Dreams. It was an inspiring and thought-provoking event that brought together industry leaders to discuss the future of the global apparel sector. The day kicked off with Malik Ahamadeen setting the stage, followed by Christopher Sanderson’s insightful overview of the global apparel landscape. Ben Cavender’s deep dive into the evolving trends in China’s markets and Hasitha Premaratne’s powerful address on Sri Lanka’s resilience over the past two decades were truly memorable. Hasitha emphasised leveraging our neighbouring countries—India, Pakistan, and Bangladesh—to enhance outputs and stay competitive. Why are fundamental changes on the agenda of consumer goods corporations right now? Because in today’s volatile and uncertain times, change is unavoidable. Sylvie Nicol is Executive Vice President Human Resources and Infrastructure Services at Henkel, a German industry and consumer goods corporation perhaps best known for its Persil laundry detergent. She is aware that cultural changes require time, especially in large organizations. Despite that, change is “unavoidable.” In the HR expert’s words: “I’ve been with the company for over 25 years, and like many of my colleagues, I’m seeing the progress.” She spends most of her time looking ahead. The company’s global initiative ACT, which stands for Accelerate Cultural Transformation, has entered its second stage, with a focus on fostering a culture of feedback. It’s not a matter of introducing a new tool but of altering human behavior. But Nicol states, that it must be acknowledged and respected that not everyone wants to change. In open dialogue and concrete action, however, the teams especially need to establish what they identify with in their work. I attended the Diversify Nordic Summit and the Blaze Inclusion Awards in Oslo last week. It had been over 12 years since I was last in Oslo, back when I worked in the fashion and lifestyle industry. Returning to this vibrant city reminded me of the art of non-verbal leadership. Your personal style should be a reflection of your personal brand and the values you uphold. This alignment between how you dress and what you stand for reinforces your leadership message and solidifies your personal and professional identity. Here are a few tips on using style as a tool for non-verbal communication in leadership: Just like a well-crafted strategy, a meticulously tailored outfit commands respect. It shows attention to detail and a commitment to excellence, reflecting your leadership qualities without a word. A consistent personal style helps build trust. It signals reliability and stability which are qualities essential for leadership. When your presentation is consistent, it fosters security and confidence in your leadership. The right attire can bridge the gap between authority and approachability. More relaxed outfits in the right context can encourage open communication and collaboration. Embracing modern trends, while staying true to your personal style, shows adaptability and forward-thinking. 𝗜𝘀 𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗱𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗽 𝗮 𝗺𝗮𝗻'𝘀 𝗷𝗼𝗯? 🤔   In the 100 largest family businesses in Germany, only 12.6 % of the management are female. And more than half of the large family businesses in Germany have no women on the management team.   Things are only changing slowly, reports the AllBright Stiftung.   𝗧𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗯𝗲𝗴𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗾𝘂𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻: 𝗪𝗵𝘆?   My opinion: we are making a mistake by associating masculinity with strength and femininity with sensitivity.   Every person who goes through life successfully needs both.   And: courageous decisions are neither masculine nor feminine. They are simply courageous.   That's why Seaco has a coaching and mentoring program to support employees, that includes a cohort of young females in preparing them for leadership roles.   Seaco is proud to encourage and support the promotion of women in management worldwide, whilst helping to raise awareness, and recognize the hard work and valuable contribution of women in logistics.    In times of growing staff shortages, I don't think we can make any progress with an outdated understanding of roles. For me, responsibility is not a gender issue.   The Hamburg-based retail group Otto Group shows how equal opportunities work. Until now, there has only been one woman on the six-member Executive Board. In spring 2025, two more will join: Petra Scharner-Wolff as CEO and Katy Roewer as CFO.   A strong signal.   #logistics #management #leadership #Seaco
