Not all that glitters is gold. DLC's article on Lighting Control Best Practices is a great guide on what is possible for "control" with the technology available to us. However, not at the energy consumption levels. LEDs were never our power hog at the site grid level, particularly in comparison to the RTUs. It was only when we were able to tie the occupancy sensor component of the lighting controls to the HVACs and BAS that we started to realize significant energy reductions. I highly recommend lighting control systems if your LEDs allow for it, but don't just stop there. The same sensors can also be used to tie into your BAS and HVAC system. Beyond just scheduling controls they will give a micro level control of operations "during" business hours and can also help lower peak demand and CO2e levels.
