The #EuropeanHydrogenWeek took place in Brussels last week, offering a vibrant platform for dialogue and exhibition related to hydrogen technologies and their role in the EU's energy future. Organised by the European Union’s Directorate-General for Research and Innovation, the event is crucial for addressing the pressing needs of the hydrogen industry and aligning with Europe's ambitious climate targets. Throughout the event, participants engaged in discussions concerning urgent regulatory frameworks necessary to support the hydrogen sector, tackled #decarbonisation challenges, and enhanced the EU’s competitiveness on a global scale. The exhibition segment of the week provides a hands-on look at the latest advancements in electrolyser and fuel cell technologies, alongside a display of hydrogen-powered vehicles. Rosalinde van der Vlies, the director of the Clean Planet Directorate, emphasised the strategic importance of hydrogen in the EU's energy strategy, stating, “Hydrogen will continue to play a very important role for the sustainable competitiveness of our European industry.” This sentiment is echoed by European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen who recently highlighted a projected 140% growth in investment in the European hydrogen sector this year.

The conference program can still accommodate couple of oral presentations or posters. However, passive participation is also worthwhile - representatives of various organizations from the Czech Republic and abroad will present their attitude to hydrogen technologies.

EMARC at EU Hydrogen Valley Days 2024! Our director Bogdan Ovidiu VARGA will be one of the #speakers for the "Project Development Assistance to #accelerate the #uptake of hydrogen projects across #European regions" session, representing the Cluj-Napoca hydrogen #initiatives. A #consortium of industrial, academic, and government partners from Romania has developed a #greenhydrogen bus project concept for Cluj-Napoca. The driving force behind this initiative is the Municipality of Cluj-Napoca, which has the #ambition to achieve a 100% #green fleet of #publictransport vehicles, including transitioning its fleet of 250 buses to hydrogen or electric power. The project aims to deploy a 2.5 MW #electrolyser and 20 hydrogen fuel cell electric buses (#FCEBs) powered mainly by #hydroelectric electricity with some #solar power generated on-site, and a 500 kg/day hydrogen refuelling station (HRS). The #HRS will be co-located with the electrolyser at the #bus terminal in the northeast of the #city. Dear friends, 🔝It has been a pleasure to have followed and contributed to the European Hydrogen Week last week! 💡 It has been an event with a great #success in terms of discussions, #networking, multilateral approach to the #Hydrogen sector, from #Research to #Industrialization 🔬 🏗️ , from #Innovation to #Market creation, from #Policies to #Investments. 📜 🏭 📌 My main #takeaways are: ▶️  We need continued #support to Research and Innovation, starting from the low #TRLs to the #supply chains and hydrogen #valleys ▶️  Hydrogen is a overall value chain to be developed, it is #NORMAL that we have problems to solve, we just need to adapt the plan and find proper #solutions 💫 ▶️  Europe has some key #tech advantages in terms of #competences, IP and #knowledge, industrialization, policies supporting the sector, really close connection between all the #stakeholders at all levels...this is a great challenge to keep some key advantages in Europe❗ ▶️  Researchers and Innovators, our members in Hydrogen Europe Research, can give an enormous contribution in keeping this advantage in Europe ▶️ We must prioritize the identification of offtakers, in parallel speeding up the realization of enabling infrastructures (The European Hydrogen Backbone and the network of European Hydrogen Refueling Stations) ▶️ We need to solve some #global challenges, all together, such as #Sustainability issues (e.g., the use of PFAs), key assets for the sector (underground hydrogen storage in depleted gas basins and caverns), developing market and support to #hydrogenvalleys scaling up. Today, I’m honoured and thankful to the Members of Hydrogen Europe Research for being re-elected to the Executive Board as the Chair for Mobility, an area where we still have significant challenges to attend to and targets to reach. Hydrogen Europe Research (HER) truly represents the European Research Community in Europe through the Association’s 150+ Members, and is one of the Owners of the Clean Hydrogen Partnership. It has been a pleasure to be involved from the HER Association was founded in March 2008, and since then it has not only represented the Research Community but also contributed to shaping the European Research Area and facilitating the implementation of hydrogen technologies in multiple sectors. #Hydrogen will play a pivotal role in decarbonising the transport sector. As supplement to battery electric propulsion, hydrogen and its carriers will be the most adequate and best suited fuels for larger vehicles/vessels on longer range/missions. An example were this will be demonstrated, is the SINTEF-coordinated H2Accelerate TRUCKS project. With this, SINTEF is consolidating our strategic engagement and commitment to foster a global leading hydrogen industry in Europe, underpinning SINTEF's scientific contribution to development and implementation of hydrogen technologies.
