OMV Petrom Invests EUR 750 Million in Petrobrazi to Become Southeast Europe’s First Major Producer of Sustainable Fuels OMV Petrom, the largest integrated energy producer in Southeast Europe, has announced a substantial investment of approximately EUR 750 million at its Petrobrazi refinery. This strategic move aims to transform the refinery into the region’s first major producer of sustainable fuels. The company has finalized its decision to construct a SAF/HVO facility, along with two green hydrogen production units to be used in biofuel production. 🌱 bp’s First Green Hydrogen FID on an Industrial Scale: How does this Align with bp’s Low-carbon Fuels Ambtions in Spain? bp and Iberdrola have officially greenlit a 25 MW green hydrogen project in Castellón, Spain. The plant - equally funded by each partner - will convert 200 GWh/yr of Iberdrola’s renewable energy into green hydrogen that will contribute to bp’s downstream decarbonization strategy in Spain. 🔍 Project Specifics The 25 MW plant will produce 2,800 tons of green hydrogen annually to replace grey hydrogen at BP’s Castellón refinery in the Valencia region, cutting 23,000 tons of CO2 emissions per year. The project is a part of HyVal, a transformative initiative targeting bp’s operations in Valencia – including green hydrogen, biofuels and renewable energy – which could see the energy major invest a up to €2bn in Castellon by 2030 💰 Government support The project benefits from €15mn in funding from NextGenerationEU and is a key component of Spain’s broader green hydrogen ambitions, supported by the Spanish Recovery, Transformation, and Resilience Plan 🏗️ bp’s Low-carbon Fuels Strategy bp Energía España president Andrés Guevara explained: “We see Hyval as key to Castellón’s, and aim to develop up to 2GW of electrolysis capacity by 2030 for green hydrogen production, helping decarbonize our operations and customers. Valencia, Spain - bp plans to develop 2GW of electrolysis capacity by 2030 at its Castellón refinery in Spain. The refinery's transformation into green hydrogen, biofuels and renewable energy production could see bp invest a total of up to €2bn. The production capacity could support both regional and national demand, as well as positioning the Valencia region for exports to the rest of Europe through the Mediterranean corridor of green hydrogen H2Med. "The first phase of the plan involves the installation of an electrolysis plant with at least 200 MW capacity at Castellón refinery by 2027, with a capacity to produce up to 31,200 tonnes of green H2 per year.
