The Sustainability Award - promoted by Kon Group, the first Italian corporate finance company to become a benefit company, and by ELITE Borsa Italiana - is an important award reserved for those Italian entrepreneurs who have made sustainable development an integral part of their corporate DNA, setting up processes, systems and resources to reduce their environmental and social impact. The Annual CSR Europe gathering in Brussels has once again proven to be a highlight in the sustainability calendar. This year’s event, entitled The European Sustainable Industry Summit, brought together National Partner Organisations from across Europe., Julian Dingli representing CORE Platform | Corporate Citizenship for Responsible Enterprises as the CSR Europe National Partner in Malta. Industry leaders participated in multiple roundtables with topics like Sustainability Reporting, Biodiversity Management, Sustainable Supply Chains, and Sustainability Capabilities for Leaders. Well done Foretica for launching The Forética Manifesto for Responsible & Sustainable AI. The keynote speeches were particularly inspiring, focusing on the use of AI with insights from TotalEnergies, Ferrero, Pirelli, Erik Mannens, Prof. PhD. MEng. MSc. - imec the Netherlands, Sven Strassburg - IBM, Mathias Vergauwen - Microsoft, Martin Ulbrich -EC DG Connect, Michael Anseeuw - BNP Paribas Fortis, Titta Rosvall-Puplett - Syensqo, and Wouter Vermeulen - The Coca-Cola Company. We’re on 🚀 ITU Global Innovation Forum has brought together the digital innovation community to Malta. My favourite moments from this morning’s Ministerial Round Table and thoughts I’ll hold for inspiration in my work: 🎯H.E. Dr. ‘Bosun Tijani of Nigeria saw innovation is an opportunity to bridge the gap between citizens and government and rebuild trust, to create jobs and lift the economy. We need to increase investment in infrastructure but also in innovation, he said, as local innovation capabilities are critical infrastructure to re-energize economies. 🎯H.E. Ms Laurence NDONG of Gabon summarized it beautifully - without digitalizaiton, our economy will not advance to provide for better futures for our people. 🎯H.E. Ms Jocelle Batapa-Sigue of the Philippines spoke about DIWA - digital innovation for women advancement – enabling women to take new roles and jobs in technology. She also emphasized the importance of international collaboration in digital development – saying that no country should be an island and we all have a lot to learn from each other. 🎯H.E. Ms Marsha Caddle of Barbados shared her perspective that governments shouldn’t focus on technology to technology’s sake but create sandboxes to new ways to understand and solve development problems. And Barbados is doing it! 🎯H.E. Ms Agnė Vaiciukevičiūtė, PhD of Lithuania offered Lithuania’s experience in mainstreaming regulatory sandboxes to test drive digital innovation, recognizing that initial funding needs to be identified but calling on stakeholders to save no effort to set up experimental spaces. 🎯 On the same note, H.E. Ms Enkelejda Muçaj of Albania spoke to the importance of legal and regulatory frameworks that not only allow digital innovation but importantly, actively facilitate its inception and spread. 🎯H.E. Ms Nancy Caruana of Malta made a strong case for leveraging the country’s small size to capitalize on digital innovation and investment to lead the way in emerging technology development globally. I believe this insight can be truly valuable for Small Island Development States (SIDS). 🎯H.E. Mr Mondli Gungubele of South Africa said that digital innovation gives hope that there is a chance for emerging countries to get to the top. So inspiring. 🎯H.E. Ms Nthati Moorosi of Lesotho emphasized that digital public infrastructure can bridge the urban-rural digital divides, enhance public service delivery. 🌍 ChangeNOW! Together with the Next Generation 🌱 I had the privilege of attending the largest summit of change, impact, and sustainability at the Grand Palais - RMN (Officiel) Ephémère in Paris, and I made a conscious decision to bring my 10-year-old daughter along. Amidst the myriad of discussions, one theme echoed through every conversation: the imperative need to act NOW to preserve our planet for the generations to come. As a professor and the director of the Master of Science in Sustainable Luxury Management at Audencia, I am proud to see the impact of our Audencia Alumni, Kevin Tayebaly, co-founding such monumental events. The summit provided a platform for crucial discussions on climate change, the significance of individual impact, the divergence of opinions on critical topics, and the urgency to act collectively. One interview that particularly struck me was the dialogue between Santiago Lefebvre and German activist Luisa Neubauer and the political discussion on social and ecological transition. Equally inspiring were the side events, where global corporations like Kering – thank you Sophie Bonnier, and Monoprix and Naturalia, Guillaume Seneclauze, engaged in discussions with innovative startups, emphasizing the importance of collaboration across sectors for meaningful change. Many thanks to Top Tier Impact for being invited. Amidst it all, one message stood out: Change begins with oneself. Over this period, most EU Member States have increased their innovation performance, although the extent to which they have improved varies strongly. Between 2023 and 2024, the EU's innovation performance improved by 0.5 percentage points. More specifically, innovation performance increased in 15 Member States during this period. However, 11 Member States experienced a decline in innovation performance". 🇪🇺

🌳🌈 KKUIC and Marriott International Forge Ahead with Novel Sustainability Endeavors KKUIC was represented at the event as a key collaborator with Marriott International, playing an integral role in discussions about sustainability initiatives. The representatives from KKUIC, namely Assoc. Prof. Chavis Ketkaew, Ph.D. – Associate Dean for Strategy, Research, and International Collaboration together with Assoc. Prof. Phaninee Naruetharadhol, Ph.D. – Director of the Center for Sustainable Innovation and Society (SIS) and Ajarn Thanatat Chitpipat – Division Chair of Innovation for Academic Service and External Collaboration, were part of both the earlier session focused on discussing potential initiatives and the later session where practical applications of those initiatives were to be explored Their involvement emphasizes KKUIC's commitment to environmental stewardship and positions the institution as a driving force behind innovative solutions for sustainable development in line with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
