Amazing news! 🎉 Our £8m MultiResilience project with Northern Powergrid, Smarter Grid Solutions, and Scottish and Southern Electricity Networks has received funding through the Strategic Innovation Fund (SIF), an Ofgem programme managed in partnership. The SIF programme is managed in partnership with Innovate UK, to develop cost-effective, coordinated solutions that will protect our customers' power supplies during extreme weather events. ⚡ Why is this project important? Resilience is increasingly important as customers rely more on electricity for heat and transportation, with greatest value in rural locations that have a heightened risk of outage. Proliferation of Low Carbon Technologies across LV and HV systems present opportunities, if coordinated appropriately, for delivery of resilience services that maintain customer supply during unplanned grid outages. Previous projects have demonstrated separate approaches via LV-connected and HV-connected resilient DERs. Coordination of such solutions can enhance the value case of resilience. The project will compare and contrast technologies and optimise hybrid applications of the two approaches to deliver cost-effective resilience to customers.   Sarah Sheehy and the team at TNEI will work with Northern Powergrid to analyse network impacts, lead the development of specifications of MultiResilience, and undertake virtual trial simulations to understand and confirm the implications for the broader network.

This morning, Modern Hydrogen, in collaboration with National Grid, successfully conducted the first live demonstration of carbon-sequestered Modern Asphalt in the Northeast! Held in Long Island, NY this event demonstrated how to pave a future of greener commutes. Modern Asphalt incorporates sequestered carbon from natural gas and Renewable Natural Gas (RNG), making roads stronger and decarbonizing infrastructure by replacing oil-based materials. 🚧🌍 A big thank you to National Grid Partners, local policymakers, DPW teams, unions, and our paving partners for helping us demonstrate this scalable solution to reduce emissions in road construction! MoorPower redeployed for winter and generating electricity! ⚡ Yesterday’s calm seas provided the ideal conditions for the redeployment of our MoorPower Demonstrator in North Fremantle, Western Australia! 🌊 Building on the successful validation completed during the initial deployment phase, this next phase will gather further data that reinforces that design and modelling validation work. We've also upgraded the MoorPower system with extra sensors to capture even more valuable data. This deployment will deliver additional evidence of MoorPower's commercial readiness, as winter brings the increased and varied wave conditions we expect to see in commercial deployments. The team recently held productive meetings with our partners through the Blue Economy CRC, discussing the project's successes to date and next steps – including our intention to deploy MoorPower on a commercial feeding barge. TouchWind's unique single-blade floating #wind turbine tilts according to wind speeds.
