As I think about my career transition from Content Writer to Product Designer, I am reminded of the diverse spectrum of experiences that shaped my path. Over the past two years, I've navigated through the various designs, embracing challenges as opportunities for growth and innovation. I dove headfirst into new design principles, tools, and methodologies, finding inspiration in my daily quest to expand my horizons. Yet, with each step, I've learned invaluable insights that have illuminated my way forward. Each lesson, from understanding users intent to iterative design, guided me towards mastery. I'm driven to craft meaningful experiences that touch users' personas. Now, I am committed to innovating for a brighter future through technology and inclusive design. If you fail to think first, then you fail, period. The quote above is from a book I started recently called ‘Think First’ by Joe Natoli and it’s a powerful reminder of the importance of strategy—something we sometimes skip in the rush to create. In the opening chapter, Joe defines strategy as finding the “sweet spot” between what users need and what the business needs to thrive. In his words, strategy means knowing WHAT you’re doing, WHO you’re doing it for, and WHY it matters. One of my biggest takeaways, especially as a UX writer, is that every solid strategy begins with research. In UX, we’re not just telling users what they need to know; we’re building an experience that is relatable. And to do that, we need to ask questions and understand the people we’re writing for. In the coming days, I’ll share how I’ve applied his two research principles to my work. Have you read Think First or another book that changed your approach to UX? Let me know in the comments! ✨Follow Damilola Aderombi for some light on your path. #uxwriter #ux #research #contentdesign #strategy #thinkfirst #empathy

UX Writing Challenge: Day 6 Scenario: It’s Monday. A user has just gotten into their car to drive to work. They plug their phone into the car and start driving. Challenge: How would you let the user know there’s a fire happening in a nearby town that is causing road closures? The effect on their commute is unknown, but there is a definite danger if the fire gets closer. How do you communicate this to them? When? Write it. As a UX designer, I've learned countless lessons over the years, but one stands out as maybe the most transformative: ✍️ write it down. Early in my career, a mentor advised me to get my ideas on paper. Writing down my thoughts helps clarify my own understanding and has also significantly improved my ability to articulate concepts in conversations with colleagues and stakeholders. The process of writing forces you to organize your ideas, making them more coherent and comprehensive. Plus, having a written record is invaluable for reference and accountability. Next time you’re stuck or preparing for an important discussion, try writing it down. You might be surprised at how much clearer and more confident you become. #UXDesign #CareerAdvice #Productivity #DesignThinking #WritingSkills

Unless you’re not human, you need to feel seen and understood. The average person wants to feel valued, heard, and even supported—and good UX is designed with this in mind. For me, empathy is what makes my role as a UX Writer really interesting. It’s a soft skill that I’ve leveraged on both in real life & in my role. 🤭 Being a big feeler allows me to step outside of myself, fit into the shoes of others, and then communicate with understanding and grace. In UX writing, this is very important. Users don’t want to feel like they’re interacting with a robot, so keeping it human-centered changes everything. And of course, this may vary depending on the brand’s voice and tone, but one thing is a must: choosing words that reassure, simplify, and speak directly to where the user is in that moment. Details like this are what make the content feel thoughtfully written. Empathy surely is like the superpower that has improved my interactions with humans in real life as well as in digital spaces. What guides you in your work? Is there a core principle you always come back to? I’d love to learn about it in the comments. ✨Follow Damilola Aderombi for some light on your path. #uxwriter #ux #contentdesigner #life #personalbranding #empathy

How about a light joke for today? Why did the UX writer break up with the placeholder text? Because it wasn’t 𝘧𝘪𝘭𝘭𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘪𝘯 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘣𝘭𝘢𝘯𝘬𝘴! 😄 But on a serious note, why do we even need placeholder texts if the field name is "already clear enough"? Well, sometimes we think users will fully understand our instructions, but the reality can be different. Users who are unfamiliar with your product might get confused and need that extra bit of guidance. Placeholder texts aren’t just “𝘧𝘪𝘭𝘭𝘦𝘳𝘴”—they’re quiet guides that show users what to input without shouting directions. These subtle nudges, helpful hints, and human touches can make or break the entire user journey. Because in UX writing, it’s not just about the words. It’s about empathy and anticipating what users need—sometimes before they even realize it themselves. 💡 #UXWriting #PlaceholderText #UserExperience

Do I have something to say? Do I have something to share? These two questions guide my content creation. It’s not easy coming up with content every day. I have a backlog of ideas, but sometimes nothing feels right. In those moments, I ask myself these questions 👇🏻 𝗗𝗼 𝗜 𝗵𝗮𝘃𝗲 𝘀𝗼𝗺𝗲𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗼 𝘀𝗮𝘆? ↳ Is there a message I think others need to hear? ↳ Is there a message I need to hear that others can benefit from? ↳ Is there a message that simply needs to be said? 𝗗𝗼 𝗜 𝗵𝗮𝘃𝗲 𝘀𝗼𝗺𝗲𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗼 𝘀𝗵𝗮𝗿𝗲? ↳ Have I learned anything that others might find useful? ↳ Have I found any resources that others might find helpful? ↳ Have I created anything that I’d like others to see? Sometimes I don’t have anything to say or share, and that’s okay. But sometimes I do, and I’m able to share it with all of you. Here’s my challenge to all of you: 👉🏻 If you have something to say, say it. 👉🏻 If you have something to share, share it. The world will be better for it. I’m Brendan, and I talk about what it means to be a UX designer. Follow along to join the conversation! #uxdesign #uxui #productdesign #design #contentcreation
