Congratulations on your successful shift to fractional work Harry Leider, MD, MBA! And thanks for sharing this HBR piece on fractional executive leadership. It’s consistent with my experience as a fractional Chief Medical Officer and is worth a read for fractional CXOs and companies considering them. #fractionalCMO #growthcompanies #innovation
I am a little over a month into my exciting new career as a Fractional Chief Medical or Chief Strategy Officer and I’m excited by both the interest that many growing healthcare companies have expressed in leveraging my expertise in fractional C-suite roles. I already have 6 clients - each one being a highly innovative early stage healthcare company and one is a large PE firm that has me helping them evaluate a potential major investment. I am also impressed with the growing interest in general in engaging fractional executives. Here is a link to a very good article on fractional executives this week in the HBR. Worth a quick read! https://lnkd.in/eDwbDX_m

I just read a great article in Harvard Business Review about the dynamic role of executive assistants. It talks about the journey from the path to becoming an EA to how we can support leaders. The article delves into the highs and lows, the challenges, and the ever-evolving landscape of this critical role. 👉 "Leaders are facing an unprecedented set of challenges as they work to run their companies, and EAs are supporting them to bring order to the chaos." - Bonnie Low-Kramen Kudos to all the amazing Admins out there! 🙌 Our work doesn't just make leaders' lives smoother; it's a vital force behind the success of organizations. ✨ Check out the article for an insightful look into the world of EAs: https://lnkd.in/gyuRgYBH #executiveassistant #leadershipsupport #careergrowth 🚀

When you're hiring a design leader we need to remember that we should be hiring people who view themselves as business executives, not just design. The boardroom is where you solve business challenges, and use design acumen to support other functions to solve problems. A lot of my clients who are often executive board members or CEO's say "we need a business executive who can bring design into the discussion" This is why I believe executive search in design is critical, it needs the same respect and rigour as other disciplines.

This! Designers must also understand that the higher they go, the more they need to think beyond design. Moving into leadership means embracing business goals, cross-functional collaboration, and strategic impact. It’s not just about creating great designs—it’s about driving outcomes that resonate across the organization. We do need more design leaders who can see the big picture.

"We need a business executive who can bring deisgn into the discussion" is the issue... until CEOs and recruiters start saying "We need a DESIGN EXECUTIVE who understands our business challenges." Additionally, design leaders need to learn to deliver results at every board meeting.

Business skills sell Design better than Design skills sell Business. Thats my quote, hopefully it’s original. 😅 During my time at Cellairis , I worked closely with the founding team and the business side of things. Even then, I wish I had the knowledge of business + design that I posses now. I have presented concepts and entire product roadmap’s, design language and creative direction as SVP of design and sourcing to large carriers, fashion houses, fashion designers, manufacturing houses, celebrities and packaging houses as well. In all of these interactions, the main discussions were centered around business and not design. These are some of the questions that would be discussed and you had to be ready for. 1. What are the main features that would make this design sell better? 2. How would the competition react when this launches and what should be our next move ? 3. What’s the ideal price point ? 4. How much quantity should we order to break even and how many would we need to order to make a profit. 5. Who would be main Demographic and how do we market this to them. 6. Last but not the least, does this cannabalise anything in our current portfolio ? I firmly believe that without understanding business or being part of these discussions it’s very hard for any designer to really add value. Let me know if my next newsletter should be about this topic. If any of you are part of board room discussions, leave a comment below. #design #leadership #business #decisionmaking #founder #ceo

Design leaders should bridge between the language (and numbers) of business and the language of user needs and design best practices. if we as designers can't translate what we do in terms of how it helps achieve business outcomes (even indirectly), we're designing with one hand tied behind our collective backs.

"Always aim to hire people that are smarter than you" I got this advice from my first mentor, Mattias Falkehag in Netlight consulting early on in my career. It might be one of the best advice I’ve ever got. When you hire people that are experts in their fields (and don't tell them what to do, but let them tell you what to do), you will be able to create a whole that is larger than the sum of its parts. As a leader it is your responsibility to ensure that these smart people has the means and the context to be the best they can be, and to ensure that everyone is moving as a lean machine in the same direction. It is the only context in which it is possible for 1+1=3. Equally, if you don’t hire the right people, it does not matter how many people you hire. Because the sum will most likely end up smaller than the sum of its parts, and the returns will be diminishing. This team most definitely creates a whole that is infinitely larger than the sum of its parts. Not least when it comes to having fun, like here in Stockholm archipelago when (parts of) the team were on a speedboat adventure last summer. Nothing fuels team building as much as some adrenalin ;) #team #hiring #leadership

Last week, I had the opportunity to attend a CEO retreat in Scottsdale, AZ with Tasha Booth. It was a transformative experience where I could fully immerse myself in strategic discussions, personal growth, and yes, some well-deserved downtime—without the usual distractions. Stepping away was made possible by my stellar team at Elevate, who expertly managed everything back home. I was able to disconnect because I trust their capabilities, which was both empowering and refreshing. For those who are navigating the challenges of leadership alone, consider the game-changing potential of hiring an Executive Assistant. An EA can bring not only support but also strategic value to your operations, giving you the freedom to focus on big-picture ideas or take essential breaks like this. If you’re curious about how an Executive Assistant could transform your work-life balance and business efficiency, feel free to reach out. I’m here to share insights and experiences that might help you make that leap! #Leadership #BusinessGrowth #ExecutiveAssistant #WorkLifeBalance #CEOInsights
