I am deeply disappointed but not surprised to read in the Daily Telegraph today that the Government has ignored road recommendations by an expert review panel. Soon after my election, I questioned the Government’s decision to not proceed with funding the M7 Motorway expansion. The recommendations from this panel highlighted the critical nature of these major infrastructures, including the urgent funding of 10 high-priority road projects. These are not just numbers on a page; they represent the lifeline of our community. And a growing one. It seems from the report that despite clear warnings, the necessary funding allocations for upgrades and expansions to alleviate congestion and support for our rapidly growing population in Western Sydney was ignored. I recently wrote a letter to the Minister for Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development and Local Government outlining that the decision to withdraw $110 million in federal funding for the M7 Motorway expansion and its connection to the new M12 Motorway is a blow to the socio-economic development of Western Sydney. The livelihood of the country’s economic engine – Western Sydney – must be prioritised by the Labor Government to ensure we have equitable access to opportunities and foster a thriving, connected region. The M7-M12 link is crucial for the new Western Sydney International Airport and the prosperity of our commercial and residential hubs. The residents of Fowler, where nearly half rely on their cars for daily commutes, are facing the brunt of this oversight. I will continue to urge the government to reconsider its stance and to recognise the national significance of these projects. As the voice of Fowler, I stand firm in my commitment to fight for the infrastructure our community deserves. We must not be forgotten in the federal resource allocation. * This video is from back in March 2023 #QuestionTime when I asked the Minister for Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development and Local Government on "What will you do to restore (this) critical transport link for my community?" #DaiLeMPFowler #VoiceForWesternSydney #WesternSydneyRepresentation #AusPol #AusPolitics #Infrastructure Margaret Cheng James O'Doherty News Corp Australia

The Boulder Municipal Airport's future has been a hot topic, sparking debates on its closure and redevelopment for affordable housing. Recently, a ballot measure to close the airport was withdrawn due to a lawsuit between the City of Boulder and the FAA. The FAA insists the airport must remain operational indefinitely, a stance the city is challenging as an overreach. Boulder Municipal Airport is more than just a transportation hub. It supports 299 jobs, generates $97.8 million annually, and has high demand for hangar space, emphasizing its importance. Yet, some residents are concerned about noise, emissions, and the need for housing. Selling the airport land could potentially generate $400 million, though this figure is disputed due to environmental and infrastructure concerns. The Boulder Airport Association-Save Boulder Airport committee underscores the airport's benefits in generating sales tax revenue and supporting emergency operations. The clash between local and federal perspectives on public infrastructure management raises crucial questions. Should local governments have the autonomy to repurpose land to best serve their community’s needs? What are your thoughts on balancing economic development, environmental concerns, and the urgent need for affordable housing? Share your insights! ✈️🏡 #BoulderRealEstate #Aviation #UrbanDevelopment #AffordableHousing #FAA #LocalGovernment #EconomicImpact #EnvironmentalConcerns #PublicInfrastructure #MultifamilyRealEstate #ColoradoHousingMarket

Vancouver Island needs to strengthen supply chain to withstand 'shocks,' experts say at the Vancouver Island Economic Alliance conference - Nanaimo News Bulletin October 28, 2024. It's not a shocking revelation, it's our reality. Relying on a single set of highways highly prone to closures due to collisions, weather events, and other disruptions is a recipe for disaster. We have a rail corridor that connects Port Alberni, the Port of Nanaimo, Nanaimo Airport all the way to Victoria Harbour and Courtenay/Comox yet our governing bodies sit with their fingers in their ears to the needs of the over 900,000 citizens that live here. Southern Railway of Vancouver Island (SVI) is the operating railroad for Vancouver Island freight and potential passenger services, and works under a haulage arrangement with SRY. SVI provides rail freight services to various customers on Vancouver Island via Transload operation based in Wellcox yard offering connections to North American Railroads (CN, CP, BNSF and UP) who have the ability to reach across the continent. SVI is the rail operator for the Island Corridor Foundation (ICF) and is well positioned to operate any future or potential rail operations which may arise, this includes expanding transload operations, freight, tourism, passenger or commuter trains. At this time, SVI only serves freight customers. ✅ https://lnkd.in/gsNFz9VH We just need to fix the rest of the tracks and get back to having a secondary way to move people and freight on Vancouver Island. 🌿✈️ The city of Boulder, CO, is taking a stand against aviation noise and environmental impact by suing the FAA to close its airport and reclaim the land for affordable housing. QC advisor and program chair Dr. Arline L. Bronzaft shares insights on this significant lawsuit and its potential implications for cities across the U.S. Key points: • Boulder accepted FAA funding to keep the airport open for 20 years. • The city stopped accepting grants and claims it can close the airport after 2040. • The FAA argues the city must keep the airport open indefinitely. • Residents are divided between the benefits of the airport and the need for housing. How do you think this lawsuit will impact other cities? Really big news this week. Alex Hynes, the MD of Scotrail, is appointed Director General for Rail at the DfT. “Marvellous news” chorused pretty much everyone. We wholeheartedly agree, but in this week’s Green Signals, Nigel Harris and I also discuss why we need to be patient and give Alex a great deal of support. Central Government departments don’t have a great track record of welcoming outsiders with open arms, especially not talented outsiders like Alex who know what they are talking about and want to crack on with pace. We also need to heed the lessons of history. I explain why the 2004 Rail Review was actually not needed - and so why this time, we need to be certain we do get what we‘ve been promised we’ll get - a joined up and empowered railway. The Heritage railways of Great Britain are one of our great tourism assets, bringing joy to millions and much a needed boost to local economies. But they are experiencing fierce economic headwinds and facing challenging times. We look at the challenges facing the North Yorkshire Moors Railway, the line made famous by the wonderfully successful ITV series “Heartbeat” to see just how challenging, and we note that it’s not just them who are facing tough times. Nigel and I also look at a bit more fares madness, the recent National Highways closure of the M25 (and some of the daftest media comments we’ve seen for a while) and we celebrate Marylebone station’s 125 birthday - not bad since it was proposed to be closed in the 1980’s and be converted into the terminus of a coach expressway from High Wycombe and beyond. Thank goodness that in these enlightened times in which we live, politicians wouldn’t dream of pandering to road users to the detriment of a low carbon option such as rail. Ah, if only…… #dft #networkrail #chilterntrains #railways #trains #heritagerailways #northyorkshiremoorsrailway #nymr #heartbeat

Today we want to talk about one of our three priority actions in our new RES Delivery Plan, Transport 🚌 Over the next three years, we'll explore opportunities to enhance transport connectivity and sustainability in the South of Scotland, which is crucial for our economic success. We will do this by: 🔸 Using a data-led approach to strengthen the case for transport investment in the South. 🔸Speaking with one voice to advise and influence regional and national partners, including the Scottish and UK Governments, on the need for different approaches to address transport issues in the South. 🔸Exploring strategic integration across regional transport partners and building connections with adjoining transport partnerships north and south of the border.
