"Commercial logging concessions cover more than one-quarter of the world’s remaining tropical forests," and according to research from Utrecht University, forest certification schemes can help preserve large mammal populations within commercial forests - thereby positively influencing seed dispersal, nutrient cycling, and forest carbon storage. Commercial forestry is an important and sustainable industry that, when handled properly, can enhance biodiversity and provide livelihoods for many different populations. This study is interesting in that it covered a large sample size in two African countries, over multiple years.
