Access to clean water isn’t just a right—it’s the foundation of life. Yet, 76% of households in Ghana are at risk of drinking polluted drinking water. Contaminated water sources caused by improper waste disposal lead to diseases like diarrhea, which impacts thousands of children every year. But the solution lies in our hands. Protecting our water bodies by reducing waste and pollution can change the narrative. Clean water doesn’t just save lives; it builds stronger communities. #WaterIsLife #CleanWaterGhana

Day 3 Challenge- Water Conservation. In Nigeria, many homes, offices and public places have their Tap sources dripping off water in this manner. Like energy, water should be conserved from waste as millions of people in Africa and other regions of the world are unable to access water. The deaths and health strain caused by lack of good water on many humans should be a compelling reason for us to do all we can to protect the earths water resources from waste, pollution and extinction. I lend my voice to the 2024 #Eco30impact Challenge to prioritize water management and conversation, I encourage you to take the following as an Action point; 📍Change water taps that leak in your home or office or whatever facility in use. #ECO30impact #Zerowaste #Recycleup

For countless Lagos residents, the reality is grim. The seepage of harmful chemicals and pathogens from inadequately managed waste infiltrates groundwater—the primary water source for many households. This contamination manifests in a plethora of waterborne diseases, including cholera, dysentery, and typhoid fever, which strike particularly hard at children and the elderly. The economic burden of treating these illnesses further impoverishes affected families, entrenching them in a cycle of poverty and ill-health. As we face water insecurity challenges globally, we have an opportunity to rethink and reimagine our relationship with wastewater in our personal lives and businesses. Nearly half of South Africa’s wastewater treatment plants are dysfunctional, allowing untreated sewage to pollute our rivers, streams, oceans, and communities. How can we stop the flow of waste into our environment? The answer lies in taking responsibility now before this crisis deepens and turning it into a moment of change for our country and future. We must embrace decentralised wastewater treatment at source in order to protect our water sources, the environment, and our economy. Are you part of the solution? #decentralised #water #wastewater #treatment #policy #legislation #environmental #social #economic #business #southafrica

In 1977, the UN convened its first water conference in Argentina, aiming for clean water and sanitation for all by 1990. But financial aid for low-income countries? Ignored. By 2020, over 2 billion people still lacked safe drinking water at home, with 1 in 3 lacking basic handwashing facilities. But in August 2024, a shocking new study revealed the crisis is even worse: 4.4 billion people—half the global population—are without safe water. “Unacceptable,” says Esther Greenwood, lead author of the report. Because water isn't just another issue — it’s the defining challenge of our century. #CleanWaterForAll #HumanRights #WaterCrisis #UNWater #GlobalHealth

The issue of waste tires in Lebanon is a significant environmental concern. Like many countries, Lebanon faces challenges in managing its waste effectively, and tires are a particularly problematic type of waste due to their durability and difficulty in disposal. When not properly managed, waste tires can accumulate in landfills, illegal dumpsites, or even be burned, leading to environmental pollution, health risks, and fire hazards. Studies indicate that in Lebanon, approximately 1.5 million tires are used and discarded annually, posing significant environmental challenges. Used tires are one of the country's largest environmental problems, as they are either dumped in landfills or improperly burned, resulting in serious environmental pollution. Moreover, tire accumulation in inappropriate locations creates an ideal environment for insect and rodent infestations, increasing health risks for local residents. #Lebanon #SolidWates #WasteManagement

The #WastePickers Needs Assessment Report reveals that 75% of #wastepickers endure serious health risks due to unsafe waste handling, yet only 20% have access to affordable healthcare nearby. This gap underscores the need for stronger protections, resources, and inclusive policies to safeguard those driving the #CircularEconomy. Supporting waste pickers not only strengthens our environmental goals but also promotes justice and dignity for a vital workforce. Water is life. It is needed by plants and animals alike for survival. Water is one of the core agenda of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), launched by the United Nations. Goal six of the SDGs, “Clean Water and Sanitation,” is all about ensuring the availability and sustainable management of water and sanitation for all. Across the world, the crisis of water shortage is very acute. Every year, the UN recognizes the urgency of addressing the global water crisis on “World Water Day “ , observed on March 22. In Nigeria, the federal government is still battling to provide millions of citizens with quality and hygienic water, both for domestic and industrial use. Blessed with an array of natural resources across its fertile land, Katsina State, over the years, has also grappled with the challenge of providing safe and clean water for its teeming residents. #WaterCrisis #WorldWaterDay #watersustainability #cleanwater This content is jointly prepared by ripple2wave and ZWEEC Analytics Pte Ltd. 🌍 Urgent Call for Action: Preserving Nairobi's Ecosystem 🚯 The recent pollution of the Nairobi River is disheartening and simply unacceptable. We cannot host esteemed organizations like the UN-Habitat and UNEP-WCMC Headquarters while allowing our rivers to suffer. Our commitment to sustainability must be reflected in our actions. Clean rivers, not sewerage, should define our cityscape. Consider the downstream impact on countless individuals who rely on this water for drinking and daily needs. We have a shared responsibility to protect our environment and preserve the delicate balance of our ecosystem. Let's unite to advocate for change and hold ourselves and our communities accountable for sustainable practices.
