It started, I think maybe the late 90s for me. I remember coming out of university. And pleading, pleading. My boss who is my brother for a job and he said no. And I said why not? And he said, you know, you worked with me on a business when you were in university, and it didn't workout well. And I lost a bit of money. And I said, yeah, but that's because I didn't know I was doing. I could do a better job now. And I remember his words really wisely, he says. All right. I'll give you another shot. In fact, I'm going to give you some of my company. I was elated. I was like, man, I'm just out of university, just got my economics degree. I really don't have any kind of future. I'm feeling kind of lost, and my brother's going to give me part of this company and this amazing company at that time. Did 43,000 in annual sales. I think today if I did $43,000 in annual sale I'd probably be fired 100 times over. But anyways, that was a big company back then. And so I told him, I said I think I could be a great manager. And he says Nope, Nope, you're not going to be a manager. And I told him why not? Why should I not be a manager of this $43,000 company? And he said to me, because you are employee one and you are the only employee so who are you going to manage? And he looked at me again. In this kind of disapproving eyes and said no, you're not going to get any training. So I said, what am I going to do? He says, why don't you just go out and sell something? So here's my here's my my aha moment to to pass on to salesman of today. And and people who want to get into sales. Desperation. Brings greatness. When you're desperate to do a sale, you'll do anything. So I just flipped over in the phone book. I picked up the phone and made one call. Then it became two call and became 1000 calls, then became 10,000 calls. And through all of that, those struggles and all of those knows and get lost. I don't want to hear you again. I got lucky and we grew sales from. Significant 43,000 that year to almost $750,000. I look back on those days now and I I think I know what sales is about. Sales is an attitude. It's not a skill. It's having the gumption, the belief in yourself that no matter what the world tells you or what obstacle you're going to run up against, you are going to be a salesman, You are going to be a superhero that proves to the world and whoever your doubters are, that you can make it happen.
